Thinking is a purposeful organized cognitive process that we use to
make sense of our world.

CRITICAL THINKING
 Critical thinking is the logical, sequential disciplined process of rationalizing,
analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting information to make informed judgments
and/or decisions.
 Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skilfully
conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information
gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning or
communication, as a guide to belief and action.

CREATIVE THINKING

 Creative thinking is a way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective


to conceive of something new or original.
 Creative thinking is the process which we use when we come up with a new idea.
 Creative thinking brings a fresh perspective and sometimes unconvenctional solution
to solve a problem or address a challenge.
 Creative thinking can be performed both by an unstructured process such as
brainstorming, or by a structured process such as lateral thinking.

CRITICAL THINKING AND CREATIVE THINKING

 Creative thinking tries to create something new, while critical thinking seeks to assess
worth or validity of something that already exists.
 Creative thinking is generative, while critical thinking is analytical.
 Creative thinking is divergent, while critical thinking is convergent.
 Creative thinking is focused on possibilities, while critical thinking is focused on
probability.
 Creative thinking is accomplished by disregarding accepted principles, while critical
thinking is accomplished by applying accepted principles.
SOURCES OF CREATIVITY
Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is
formed. The created item may be intangible (such as an idea, a scientific theory,
a musical composition, or a joke) or a physical object (such as an invention,
a literary work, or a painting).

 News and pop culture:- keep current with the latest trends and technologies to
stay relevant and inspire a new creative direction.
 Go offline:- from electric boutiques and farmer’s markets to books and
magazines, going offline can bring fresh perspectives.
 Arts and culture:- art galleries, photography exhibits and live theatre can spark
ideas and challenge your thinking.
 Go online:- websites, online forums and mood boards are key to discovery,
learning and insights.
 Word maps:- creating lists of synonyms when developing messages and
seeking visual inspiration can be powerful exercise.
LATERAL THINKING
 Lateral thinking is the mental process of generating ideas and solving problems by
looking at a situation or problem from a unique perspective.
 Lateral thinking involves breaking away from traditional modes of thinking and
discarding established patterns and preconceived notions.
LATERAL THINKING TECHNIQUES
Lateral thinking techniques provide a deliberate, systematic process that results in
innovative thinking. By using these unconventional thinking techniques, lateral thinking
enables you to find creative solutions that you may otherwise not consider.
