What is the literacy level of the first semester Veterinary Medicine

students at the University of La Salle north headquarters?

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM
The misuse of the trash bins of the
University of La Salle north
headquarters was evidenced causing a
bad management of urban solid waste,
affecting the entire process that takes the
garbage from when it is deposited in the
caneca until it reaches the centers of
collecting or treating these wastes, this
problem is evident even when they have
a clear indication of the waste to be
disposed of respectively.(Ministerio de Vivienda,
2017 Pág 10)
The majority of waste from the University of La
Salle is organic and not usable
Evaluate and analyze the students' knowledge regarding a culture of
good management and distribution of solid waste in their daily lives,
in this way it will be possible to implement actions in which not only
the specialized staff, but also the students of the university are seen
involved in the classification, management and destination of solid
waste produced in its environment, without leaving behind the use of
recyclable material.
OBJECTIVES (SPECIFIC)

1. Determine the level of knowledge and understanding of first-year Veterinary

Medicine students, regarding the disposal of solid waste at the University.
2. Identify the fault (cause) in the educational system provided to students in
relation to waste disposal
3. Generate spaces in which literacy is carried out in waste management, making
these activities mandatory, taking into account the impact that poor waste
management has on the health of living beings.
4. Propose a model of integral solid waste management for the University of La
Salle, aimed at the use of solid waste.
WHAT IS MEANT BY THE WORDS SOLID WASTE?

It is understood as any object, residue,

liquid, substance or solid element resulting
from the consumption or use of a good in
domestic, industrial, commercial,
institutional, service activities, etc; that
the generator abandons, rejects or
delivers and is susceptible to use or
transformation into a new good, with
economic value or final disposal
(Ministerio de Vivienda, 2017)
Man through his life has had an active participation in the
transformation of his environment, such as solid waste, also
called waste, waste or leftovers from the daily activities of each
one of us.
IN RECENT YEARS, THANKS TO MAN'S GREAT AMBITION TO
INDUSTRIALIZE, AN INCREASE IN THE PRODUCTION OF WASTE HAS
BEEN OBTAINED
We must be clear that the first attempt to know the situation
of waste in the country, was thanks to the Ministry of Health,
Directorate of Environmental Sanitation, in 1975, obtaining
results for the base of the Pronasu project. And since that time
multiple laws and projects for environmental well-being have
been implemented.
THEORY
SOLID WASTE: These are all those substances or products that have already fulfilled their
intended purpose but which in turn can be reused. (Ministry of Environment, 2016)

SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT:One of the challenges that agents and representatives of

the State must face in the world is the problem of waste management by the consumer.
Millions of daily tons of garbage are currently housed everywhere. This is why the need arises
to create and implement strategies and methods that allow people to properly handle solid
waste. The organic part of the waste has not been recovered, that is, vegetable waste, leather,
non-recoverable paper, etc. They can be used to produce a kind of “organic fertilizer” or
compost, which does not fully comply with what is known agriculturally as fertilizer, it does
have great utility as a soil conditioner to improve the texture, retention of water and nutrients
thereof (Rodriguez, nd)
Solid waste management is waste collection, transportation, management,
treatment, recycling and disposal of waste materials.
What do we have to do about it?
knowing that this problem with the bad management of the solid waste is affecting
every living being, we can't just let it be and watch the problem get worse every
day, we as colombian citizens can do little things that will help us end the problem, is
not difficult and is something that we can do on the day to day basis , that being part
of the civic culture in colombia.

like deposit clean and dry recyclable waste such as cardboard, paper, plastics in the
proper bin, these things will help a better organization in the collection centers and
at the same time a material that lasts for years in degrading will be put to good use.
