The Guidance and

Counseling Services:

1. COUNSELING SERVICE
This is considered as the “heart and soul” of the
guidance program. This service aims to assist the
student in gaining deeper self-understanding and
awareness of one’s problem and the effectiveness of
the decision process by formulating alternatives and
projecting consequences of each that allow students
to review critically what has taken place and makes
provision for the future meeting if they are needed.
1.1 REFERRAL
Special cases, which require service beyond the
scope of guidance and counseling services, are
referred to other agencies.
1.2 FOLLOW-UP
Follow-up sessions are conducted among students
who are counseled, referred by faculty,
administrators and staffs. This service ensures that
the student has learned appropriate behaviors and
decisions regarding his/her problems or need.
1.3 LINKAGES
The Guidance Counseling Program also carries out
collaborative activities with school and community-
based organizations.
2. TESTING SERVICES

In many educational institution as well as


employment offices, tests are probably the most
widely used specialized techniques in guidance.

Test is very useful as a guide tool if combined


with appropriate planning for individual
development. Test provides “information in
meaningful terms through quantitative
description.”
3. STUDENT INVENTORY RECORD

This is a continuous process of accumulating,


recording and utilizing the information on each
student for guidance and counseling purposes and
obtaining picture of the individual student.
4. ORIENTATION AND INFORMATION
SERVICES

Orientation and information services consist of


accumulation dissemination of information about
the different guidance activities, vocational
opportunities, and educational information for better
adjustment and personal growth.
5. Freshmen enhancement
program
Freshmen Enhancement Program is a package of
activities for freshmen designed to facilitate
adjustment into high school life, enhance self-
awareness and understanding, and develop the
basic skills in coping effectively with rigors of
academic life. The components of this program
include psychological testing and evaluation;
study skills development; time management;
stress management; and group session.
6. CAREER, LIFE PLANNING AND
DEVELOPMENT
THIS IS A PACKAGE OF ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO
DEVELOP SKILLS IN SELF-EXPLORATION, VALUES
CLARIFICATION, CAREER PLANNING AND DECISION
MAKING, AND LIFE GOAL SETTING.
- PLACEMENT AND CAREER SERVICE (GRADE 10)

GRADUATING STUDENTS ARE BEING PREPARED BY


THE SERIES OF CAREER TALKS BY EXPERTS IN THE
FIELD OF OCCUPATIONAL ENDEAVORS.
7. RESEARCH AND EVALUATION
SERVICE (RES)

This service consist of the conduct of researches on


student’s NCAE and NAT results, values, attitudes
and the evaluation of the basic guidance services at
the end of the school year.
8. SPECIAL PROGRAMS
8.1 GROUP DYNAMICS
This is a system of behaviors and psychological processes
occurring within a social group (intragroup dynamics), or
between social groups (intergroup dynamics).

8.1 TRAINING/SEMINAR/FORUM
These are programs designed to help students discover their innate
ability and talents as well as develop their emotional intelligence.
Symposium and forum are organized as information program to
tackle important life issues like Drugs, Love, Dating and Courtship,
Abortion, and Teenage pregnancy, Gender issues and other relevant
topics affecting the life of a person.

8.3 PEER FACILITATION
Student Peer Facilitators are trained to help in the
delivery of the guidance services, as well as extension
services.

8.4 EXTENSION SERVICES


Guidance Counselor’s functions and responsibilities go
beyond the students. They extend themselves by helping
others through training, seminar/workshops, or conduct
research as they are often invited in occasions needing
their skills and knowledge (eg. Debriefing earthquake
survivors, flood or fire survivors and even in a family who
experienced crisis)
