Buddha insisted that no one accepts his

him, but that each human being
subjects the teaching to a rigorous
reflection and analysis and accept it
only after all doubts and perplexities
are overcome.

how can it be made salty again?
CHRISTIANITY
It is no longer good for anything,
except to be thrown out and
trampled underfoot. You are the
light of the world. A town built
on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp
and put it under a bowl. Instead
they put it on its stand, and it
gives light to everyone in the
house. In the same way, let your
light shine before others, that
they may see your good deeds
and glorify your Father in

Does God exist?
~ Theistic Hypothesis
CHRISTIANITY
God is a constant presence,
rather than a being whose
existence is accepted as the best
explanation of available evidence.

freewill to choose right or

CHRISTIANITY
St. Augustine of Hippo:
The Doctrine of Divine Illumination
• The human mind can make judgments
and achieve truths, particularly eternal
truths.
• He pointed out the eye analogy.
• Even if man uses his reason in his
search for the truth or knowledge,
without the light or illumination
coming from God, his search is futile.

God is love, Love is God

The love for God shall make man
complete. It is this love that will bring a
human person true happiness, because
God is love and love is God.
CHRISTIANITY
St. Thomas Aquinas:
Combination of Faith and Reason
• Philosophy and Theology complement
each other in man's search for truth.
• Philosophy proceeds from the
principles which human reason has
discovered.
• He viewed theology as the rational
ordering of principles that come from
the divine revelation and eventually
accepted as a matter of faith.
Transcedental Destiny of Man
• A human being is a creation with a union of
mortal body and immortal rational soul.
• The soul is responsible for body functions
and movements. It is the soul that gives life
to the mortal body.
CHRISTIANITY

St. Thomas Aquinas:

Transcedental Destiny of Man
• Our rational soul makes us rational, makes
us capable of sensation and move us in the
excercise of free-will.
• We can choose God or not, or to choose to
do good or to do evil.
• People cannot love God without freedom.
• Our goal is to be with God, and it is our
capacity to love that makes us realize our
worth. Again, man's perfection and
happiness can be found only in God.
