Course Synopsis
COMMUNICATIVE ENGLISH 2 aims to develop the
necessary skills in students to analyse and interpret
graphs and charts from data collected as well as job
hunting mechanics. Students will learn to present data
through the use of graphs and charts. Students will
learn the process of job hunting which includes job
search strategies and making enquiries. They will also
learn to write resumes and cover letters. The students
will develop skills to introduce themselves, highlight
their strengths and abilities, present ideas, express
opinions and respond appropriately during job
interviews.
Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)

Upon completion of this course, students should be


able to:

1.Describe and analyze information contained in


graphs and charts clearly and accurately based on
a mini project.
2.Write an effective resume and a supporting cover
letter for a relevant job opening.
3.Handle a job interview effectively and confidently.

1.0 DESCRIPTION OF GRAPHS AND CHARTS

This topic aims to enable students to analyse and interpret


graphs and charts using data collected from a mini
project. During the process, students will be exposed to

and making comparisons of trends and movements and

distribution patterns in graphs and charts. The students
will be taught to extract and describe the information from
the graphs and charts and present it in oral form.

2.0 JOB HUNTING MECHANICS


This topic covers skills which are needed by students
seeking employment. It focuses on self-assessment and
job-search strategies. Students will be able to select jobs
or positions which match their qualifications, retrieve Written Task
relevant information regarding the positions available and (Resume & Cover Letter)

request for a job interview. The topic aims to prepare
students with skills to write effective resumes with Mock Job Interview
accompanying cover letters. Consequently students are
also trained to prepare for and handle a job interview
confidently.
