What is Arnis?
Also known as
Eskrima/Kali.It is an
indigenous Filipino
martial art and sport
characterized by the
use of swinging and
twirling movements.
HISTORY
The Philippines is
an island nation
rich in both culture
and history. The
Filipino martial art
of Arnis/
Kali/Eskrima has
contributed to both
the history and
diversity of the
Philippines.
Arnis/Kali/Eskrima was
originally developed by
the people native to the
islands using simple
impact and edged weapons
such as kampilans,
rattan, swords, daggers,
spears and other assorted
weaponry for combat and
self defense. These
weapons were also
sometimes used as farm
implements.
In 1975, the National
Arnis Association of
the Philippines
(NARAPHIL) was formed
by Gen. Fabian C. Ver.
This organization
acted as the first
national organization
for Arnis in the
Philippines

modern
arnis
Court Dimensions/ Venue
The playing area is a square measuring
8.0m x 8.0m with a 2 meter minimum free
zone around it. The surface must be flat
and smooth and must not be elevated from
the ground. The playing surface must be
clean and free from foreign objects that
may endanger or cause injury to the
players.

Live stick
Made of

Padded Sticks
The ideal weapon for the
duello. They are made of
a tough internal
assembly, which is
designed to take a
series of hard hits;
foam padding to prevent
deformation from
gripping; and a high-
grade vinyl cover for a
comfortable and easy
grip.
Head Protector
Refers to a
pair of
protective head
gear to include
an impact
worthy face
mask.
Body Protector
Refers to a
pair of body
protector,
properly
cushioned to
avoid injuries.
Groin Protector
To protect the
fighter’s
groin.
Forearm and Shin
Protector
provide complementary
protection to the other
arnis battle gear. They
were designed not only
for protection, but also
for comfort and
practicality. They can
be used for both upper
arm and forearm
protection and the shin
spot below the knee.
Scoreboards
Either manually or
electronically
operated, the
specifications of
which shall be in
accordance with the
i-ARNIS standards
Stopwatch
To keep track of time of
the performance.
FLAGS

Red
shall be raised by the official to
indicate loses control of the
weapon/s.
FLAGS

Blue
shall be raised by the official to
indicate stepping outside of the
playing area.
FLAGS

Both Flags(Red and Blue)


shall be raised by the official to indicate
violation of standard salutation simultaneously
whistling to call the attention of the
performers.
