WHAT IS
MEDIA?
MEDIA
• - is the plural of medium or multiple mediums.

MEDIUM
- is a substance or method in which something is
communicated; it’s the vehicle for a message.
EXAMPLES OF MEDIA
Books, films, paintings,
songs, poems, video
games, magazines,
newspapers, web forums,
tweets, snap chat stories, etc.

ADVANTAGES
• 1. It educates people.
• 2. People get the latest news in a very short
time.
• 3. People get to bring out their hidden talents.
• 4. Children’s knowledge increases.
• 5. Radio is convenient as people do get short
news and with a mobile phone one can
access it.
• 6. Great in promoting mass consumer
products.
• 7. Serves as a good source of entertainment.
• 8. Television allows electronic duplication of
information.
• 9. Media leads to diffusion of different cultures.
• 10. It helps people around the world to
understand each other and embrace their
differences.
DISADVANTAGES
• 1. It leads to individualism.
• 2. Some media contents are not suitable for
children. Limiting children’s access to such content
can be difficult.
• 3. Newspaper is geographically selective.
• 4. Increase in advertisements in television and radio
is making them less attractive.
• 5. Internet as a form of media opens up possibilities
of imposters, fraud and hacking.
•6. Media can be addictive.
•7. Health problems.
•8. It glamorize drugs and alcohol.
•9. It can lead to personal injury.
•10. It can lead to ruin of reputation.

and production.

with the ability to get more useful
information, to connect with learning
groups and other educational systems
that make educational convenient.

• is the communication or reception
of knowledge or intelligence
•knowledge obtained from
investigation, study, or instruction
INFORMATION LITERACY
The ability to identify, find, evaluate, and use
information effectively. From effective search strategies
to evaluation techniques, students learn how to
evaluate the quality, credibility, and validity of
websites, and give proper credit.

Also referred to as digital literacy or media literacy. It is


fundamental so as to thrive in a digital space.
PROS AND CONS OF INFORMATION
PROS

• Information can reach large, wide, multiple classes of


audience at same time.
• Immediate response or feedback: one of the essential
elements of communication is response or feedback.
• The process of storing and retrieving information has
improved significantly. New communication technologies
continue to help in areas of quality production,
enhancements, color quality to almost real life creation.
CONS

• The feedback at times aren't real, because of the


immediacy of feedback.
• There still glitches with quality regardless of advancement
in information and communication technology.
• Information is yet to be global because there are still
billions of people around the globe without access to
computer, smartphone, tablet and other communication
devices.
•Why is Information Literacy important?
• It students recognize misleading, out-of-date,
or false information and it also helps them sort
through the data and interpret it intelligently.

• Libraries full of books are still available and a


valuable resource for students, but information
literacy includes the Internet and beyond.
INFORMATION LITERACY AND EDUCATION
• It is something all students must learn to
effectively complete research, and it’s a
prevalent aspect of higher education. In the
end, people with knowledge of information
literacy are prepared to find the data they
need for any decision or task in life. In
essence, they’ve learned how to learn, which
makes them better equipped to do so in all
situations.

It is the ability to use tools of information and
communication technology to:
• Define ones information problem clearly
• Access information efficiently
• Evaluate the reliability, authority, and bias of
sources

best ICT tools available in order to use it
effectively and responsibly
• Communicate ones new ideas effectively and
ethically with the appropriate ICT tools available

It is the mode of education that use


information and communications
technology to support, enhance, and
optimise the delivery of information.
WHAT IS ICT IN EDUCATION?

• Worldwide research has shown that ICT can lead to an


improved student learning and better teaching methods.
• A report made by the National Institute of Multimedia
Education in Japan, proved that an increase in the use of
ICT in education with integrating technology to the
curriculum has a significant and positive impact on
students’ achievements.
WHAT IS ICT IN EDUCATION?

• The results specifically showed that the students


who are continuously exposed to technology
through education has better ‘knowledge’,
presentation skills, innovative capabilities, and are
ready to take more efforts into learning as
compared to their counterparts.
How can we increase the reach of our
institution, to a larger number of students?
• The Mobile learning (m ‐learning) as a form of e
‐learning is a rising trend where the education has
outgrown the physical constraints of the
classrooms and acquired mobility. Students access
information whenever and wherever they want,
and institutions that provides such advanced
technological terrains is rising in number day by
day.
