NATURE
The phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the
landscape, and other features and products of the earth.
It is what we can see all around as, and provides as resources like air, water, land
and possibly every thing needed for the survival of life.
Human needs are growing every day. So to meet his needs, they are
consuming more and more resources. This leads to the depletion of natural
resources
While meeting the ever-growing needs, we put pressure on the environment.
When the pressure exceeds the carrying capacity of the environment to repair
or replace itself, it creates a serious problem of environmental degradation.
Human activities like environmental pollution is amplifying this degradation
process.
Wastes are accumulating in every corners, and increasing day by day.
Industrialization and advent of new corporates has a major part in this
situation.
These companies are using our natural resources and turning them in to useful
products according to human needs. As a biproduct wastes are producing.
So these corporates has a responsibility to our society to prevent hazards
caused by this process and lead by example.
We are going to introduce such a company.
About
IOC ,India’s flagship national oil company and downstream petroleum major,
was incorporated on June 30, 1959 headquartered in New Delhi
It is the largest commercial enterprise in the country, with a net profit of INR
19,106 crore (USD 2,848 million) for the financial year 2016–17
It is ranked 1st in Fortune India 500 list for year 2016 and 168th in Fortune's

IOC and Society
causes Effects
• Land disturbance • Loss of diversity
• Over population • Ozone depletion
• Land fillings • Major impact on human health
• Deforestation • Loss of eco system
• Natural causes • Climate change
IOC’s Green Agenda
0.5% sulphur diesel was introduced and 0.25% sulphur diesel was introduced
in the TAJ area
Climatic change:
• Greenhouse gases and other major toxic gases harmful to the environment
polluting the atmosphere day by day.
• The co2, methane, nitrous oxide etc is acting as a cover that prevents heat from
escaping the earth atmosphere there by increasing heat. This causes global
warming.
• This increased temperature melts polar ice caps and increase sea level. A
greater threat to the mankind in the near future
IOC has renewed its focus on green energy and sustainability initiatives, having firmed up a
mega clean energy drive that includes plans to invest Rs 1,820 crore in setting up green energy
generation capacity, pushing bio-fuel blending in petroleum products and adopting measures to
cut down its carbon footprint.
Other initiatives like: CNG, Ethanol blended petrol, LPG, Bio diesel, Hydrogen energy etc are
promoting.
Recycling
The term ‘recycle’ is important when it comes to waste management.
IOC is giving very much importance to water conservation and recycling
process.
The company uses world class, efficient methodologies.
Like filtration systems and rain water harvestings.
All these steps have led to 80-95% wastewater being reused in our refineries,
which has resulted in substantial reduction in fresh water consumption.
The company’s robust asset infrastructure latest and advance technology and
strong market position is appraisable.
The waste water treatment and recycling is done in the plant. With the help
of advanced and efficient techniques, the plant effectively recycles 80-90 %
of waste water and uses it. Initiatives like rain water harvesting plant and RO
plant adds glory to this program.
Solid wastes, the biproduct of the refining process is treated with utmost
care.
SUGGESTION
• The company itself follows various good initiatives for environmental protection
and to prevent climatic change. But that is not enough. The organisation should
come forward with initiatives to promote such things to the public. The people
should be enlightened about the need of such initiatives and the company should
lead them.
• It has come to our notification that, the CSR and other charity programmes by the
company is concentrated mostly on rural areas in the northern states. They should
do more such activities to the southern states as well.
• The rumours like lack of safety is some what true. The company should be
more cautious about the workers safety and public as well.
• The Indian Oil Corporation should consider giving more opportunities to the
younger generation. Mainly employment and educational support to
brightest minds. Should give them opportunities.
CONCLUSION
