FACTS ABOUT FOOD WASTAGE
About 1.3 billion tonnes of food, i.e., US $1 trillion in
monetary terms is wasted every year globally.
Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough
food to lead a healthy active life . That’s about one in nine
people on earth.
Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) deaths in children
under five –3.1 million children each year.
A child dies approximately every five seconds as a result of
hunger and malnutrition.
One out of six children-roughly 100 million – in developing
countries is underweight.
300 million barrels of oil are used
to produce food that ultimately
gets wasted.
Food wastage generates 3.3 billion
metric tonnes of CO2,
