TEACHING SPEAKING FOR KIDS

Activity 1: DRAWING A PICTURE –
PAIR/GROUP WORK
Purpose: Review color, classroom items, preposition of place.
Students can negotiate the meaning with others. T should match the level
with the Ss’ ability.
Procedure:
Pre-task: T teaches Ss nouns, color, preposition of place.
+A student will say what they want in the picture and the other students
will draw in it.
For example:
-Draw the sun on the top left of/in the paper.
- Draw the mountain under the sun.
- Draw a house under (on the bottom of) the mountain.
- Draw a tree next to the house……….
+ COLOR THE PICTURE
POST- TASK:
Ss can introduce his/her own picture.
Activity 2: FIND SOMEONE WHO….. (TASK BASED LEARNING – TBL
METHOD)

Purpose: Help Ss get to know another and promote more discussion


about personal information
Procedure: Ss go around the classroom and ask anybody until you find
the person does the activity
PRE – TASK: T teaches Ss with the structure and action first.

POST - TASK

• Ss introduce their friend’s personal information

Activity 3: WORD JUMBO RACE
GROUP WORK
Purpose: Review tenses, word order, reading and writing skills, grammar, speaking.
Note: Teacher can be flexible to apply different variations of this activity based on
students’ level.
Procedure:
Pre-task: T teaches Ss nouns, color, preposition of place.
• Write out a number of sentences (one of each sentence per team), using
different colors for each sentence.
• Cut up the sentences into individual words.
• Put the sentences into any objects you can find, keeping each separate.
• Split your class into teams of 2 or 3.
• Teams must now put their sentences in the correct order. The winning team
is the first team to have all sentences correctly ordered.
Activity 3: WORD JUMBO RACE
GROUP WORK
Post-task: Ss practice speaking the sentences they have put in order.
Activity 4: BALL GAME
Note: Teacher can be flexible to apply different variations of this activity based on students’ level.

Purpose: Test ss’ quick reaction; Great for reviewing lessons; Dynamic learning environment
Procedure:
- Students stand up in a circle around the teacher.
- A ball is tossed to a student and the teacher asks a question in
textbook. The student then responds and throws the ball back to the
teacher.
- The teacher then throws the ball to another student and asks
another question.
