• Sentence – A sentence is a group of words which makes complete sense. • Parts of Sentence – A sentence has two parts • Subject • Predicate • Subject -> That part of a sentence, which tells about the doer of an action • Eg. • He is studying English • She drives a car • Predicate-> that part of a sentence, which tells about the subject, is called predicate. • I am preparing for IELTS. • John is my best friend. • Predicate has two parts • Verb • Object • Eg. • The bird is sitting on the tree. • He has a good memory. • Phrase – A group of words which has a meaning but not complete meaning. • Eg. • From the east • A good boy • In the sky • On the desk • Clause – a part of a large sentence that has a subject and a predicate of its own
• I told him that he would get first class.
Parts of Speech • Parts of speech are words divided into different parts, according to their function in a sentence. That are • Noun – naming word is called noun. It can be the name of a person, place or thing. • Proper Noun – the name of any particular person, place or things • Eg. • America, Geeta, Sun • Common Noun – The name common to every person, thing, class or kind.

• Countable noun • Uncountable noun Pronoun • A word, which is used instead of a noun to avoid the repetition of noun is called pronoun. • Eg. • Rahul is a student and he lives in a village. • I met an old women and she was suffering from fever. Adjectives • A word used to qualify a noun or pronoun and indicate the quality, kind, quantity, number etc. • Eg. • Josep is a good teacher. • He is in the tenth class. • I am hungry. • Those grapes are sour. Verb • A word, which tells us what a person or thing is doing • Eg. • They fly kite • We are going to see film • Verbs has three forms • Present (1st Form) • Past (2nd Form) • Past Participle (3rd Form) Verb tells about – three uses • What a subject does? • He is telling a lie. • The cat drinks all the milk • What a subject is/was/will be? • Raja is a doctor. • Raja was a doctor • Raja will be a doctor • What a subject has/have/had/will have? • I have a car. • He had a pen. Adverb • A word used to qualify or modify a verb, adjective or another adverb is called adverb. • You do your homework carefully. • Rose is a very beautiful flower. Preposition • A word used before a noun or pronoun to show its relation with other words in the sentence is called preposition • Eg. • My parents go to temple every day. • The Principal is in the hall. • Where do you come from? Conjunction • A word used to join two words, two phrases or two clauses are called conjunction. • Eg. • Mohan and Sohan cannot read English. • If you run fast, you will catch the train.
