In this investigation on the characteristics of

the welding of super duplex stainless steel plates of dimension
200*150*5 mm welded by activated tungsten inert gas
(ATIG) welding using (super duplex stainless steel ) filler with
(ZnO) flux under various heat inputs, after that the test
samples obtained were prepared for various NDT and
destructive tests are taken to know the characteristics of the
welding under the taken parameters and the results are
compared to ascertain which suitable parameter for the taken
Zinc Oxide flux (ZnO) and for the welding technique provides
great result.
AIM OF THE RESEARCH

The objective of this work is to study the effect and

properties of UNS S 32750 Super duplex stainless steels
joints by using ATIG( Activated tungsten inert gas)welding.
Objectives

• Evaluating the feasibility of joining super duplex stainless

steel joints using fusion welding process.

• Fabricating the dissimilar super duplex stainless steel

joints using GTAW welding process.

• Optimizing the process parameters of each welding

processes (GTAW) to get defect free similar super duplex
stainless steel joints.

• Evaluating the mechanical properties (Tensile, Bend test

and toughness) and the metallurgical characteristics
(optical microscope, SEM, XRD and EDS mapping) of
the fabricated dissimilar super duplex stainless steel
joints.
Methodology
Materials

Super Duplex UNS S32750

Super Duplex UNS S32750 is a mixed microstructure of austenite and ferrite
(50/50) which has improved strength over ferritic and austenitic steel grades.
The main difference is that Super Duplex has a higher molybdenum and
chromium content which gives the material greater corrosion resistance than
standard duplex grades.
 This is a Duplex alloy stainless steel designed to feature high strength,
resistance to pitting, stress corrosion cracking, erosion corrosion and
corrosion fatigue, crevice corrosion and strong weldability.
Fusion welding
Fusion welding belongs to the general manufacturing
processes category of joining.
