TEST OF AGGREGATE • 1)Aggregate crushing value test 2)Aggregate impact value test. 3)Aggregate abrasion value test. 4)soundness test. 5)shape test. 6)water absorption test. 7)Bitumen adhesion test. Aggregate crushing value test • Fill aggregate into standard cylinder measure in three layer .each layer is tamped 25times with tamping rod of 60cm long and 16mmdia. • Weight sample in cylinder measure is taken as w1. • Fill the cylinder mould with aggregate removed from the cylinder in standard manner. • Level the top surface of aggregate in mould .place the plunger over aggregate .plunger should not jam. • Take about 6.5kg of surface dry aggregate passing through 12.5mm sieve and retained on 10mm sieve. • Place the mould with plunger on anvil of compression testing machine • It gives the relative measure of resistance of aggregate crushing under gradual compressive load. • If the aggregate crushing value is less than 10 It signifies strong aggregate.if the crushing value is 35 or above it will be normally considerd as normal aggregate. .
Aggregate Crushing value test
Observation table of crushing value test AGGREGATE IMPACT VALUE TEST • Take oven dry aggregate passing through 12 .5 mm sieve and retained on 10 mm sieve. • Fill cyclindrical measure of 7.5cm dia and 5cm height in three equal layer .Each layer being tamped with 25 strokes by the tamping rod. • Determine the net weight of aggregate in the measure W1. • The whole sample is filled into cyclinder steel cup fixed on base of machine. • The hammer weight about 14kg.It is raised height of 380mm above the aggregate in the cup and allowed to fall freely on aggregate. • Apply 15 such blows at interval of not less than one second. • Seive crushed aggregate on IS sieve 2.36mm.The fraction passing is weighed w2. .
AGGREGATE IMPACT VALUE TEST
Aggregate abrasion value test .Take about 5kg of dry aggregate passing through 12.5mm seive and retain on 10mm sieve. .Dry the sample in oven at 105c to 110c temperature. .Now put the aggregate in the drum of machine. .Put abrasive charge in the drum .The abrasive charge consist of cast iron sphere or steel approximately 48mm in diameter and each weight 390 to 445gm. .The number of sphere required is depend upon the grading of aggregate. Aggregate abrasion value test Observation table of abrasion test BITUMEN ADHESION TEST Of AGGREGATE • Bitumen adhere well to all other type of road aggregate. • They are dry and free from dust. • Adhesion problem occur when aggregate is wet and cold. • In absence of water there is practically no adhesion problem of bituminous construction.
