ACARA

● Improvise with the elements of drama and narrative structure to develop ideas, and
explore subtext to shape devised and scripted drama (ACADRM047)
● Structure drama to engage an audience through manipulation of dramatic action, forms
and performance styles and by using design elements (ACADRM050)
● Perform devised and scripted drama making deliberate artistic choices and shaping
design elements to unify dramatic meaning for an audience (ACADRM051)

(ACARA, 2018)
“...a commitment to numeracy
development is an essential component of
learning areas across the curriculum and a
responsibility for all teachers”
(The Australian Curriculum, 2018)
Use of Numeracy - ACARA
Links to Numeracy General Capability:
● Using Spatial Reasoning:
This element involves students making sense of the space around them. Students visualise,
identify and sort shapes and objects, describing their key features in the environment. (Being
spatially aware when presenting a play)
● Students apply skills in estimating and calculating with whole numbers to solve and model
everyday problems in a wide range of authentic contexts
● Students recognise and use number to calculate and estimate; spatial reasoning to solve
problems involving space, patterns, symmetry, 2D shapes and 3D objects; scale and proportion
to show and describe positions, pathways and movements
● Students need to recognise that mathematics is constantly used outside the mathematics
classroom and that numerate people apply general mathematical skills in a wide range of
familiar and unfamiliar situations.
● Students work with a range of numerical concepts to organise, analyse and create
representations of data relevant to their own or others’ artworks, such as diagrams, charts,
make the most of the digital technologies
available to them, adapting to new ways of doing
things as technologies evolve and limiting the
risks to themselves and others in a digital
environment.”
(The Australian Curriculum, 2018)
Use of ICT - ACARA

Links to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Capability:

● Investigating ICT: This element involves students investigating questions, topics
or problems using ICT. Students use ICT to define and plan information searches
of a range of primary and secondary sources.
● Managing and Operating ICT: This element involves students managing and
operating ICT to investigate, create and communicate. Students apply technical
knowledge and skills to select, use and troubleshoot appropriate digital
technologies. Students apply technical knowledge and skills to efficiently and
securely manage and maintain digital data.
● Creating with ICT: This element involves students using ICT to realise creative
intentions and create solutions to challenges and tasks. Students use ICT to
generate ideas, plans and processes that clarify a task or steps, and generate and
manage digital solutions to challenges arising from learning activities or responding
to a need or creative intention.
The Lesson:
Use of Numeracy:
● Connecting the number given with counting in the creative use of body in performance
● Having a 30 second time limit to discover Character, Objective, Location
○ 10 secs per finding
● Use of video on the iPad allows timing to be explicit to students
● Value of Drama is all about timing, ie comedic timing, character movement and using
time effectively in play building
Use of ICT:
● Sokkyo – Improvisation Suggestion Generator App
● Timer on screen - https://www.online-stopwatch.com/
● YouTube - Showing examples of finding Character, Relation, Objective, Location
● Use of School iPads - Video recording final scene/skit

Lesson Introduction
Physical Warm Up Exercise:

● Finding a space on the floor, listen for a number to be called

● This number corresponds with the number of body parts you should have
touching the floor at a time
● Place this number of limbs/body parts on the floor as quickly as possible

For example:

5 = two feet, two hands, one elbow

● Last one to finish (or who has an incorrect number of body parts) is eliminated
Improvisation Exercise: https://www.online-
stopwatch.com/

● Find a small group (3 or 4)

● Wait for a ‘Relation’ prompt to be given by the teacher using “Sokkyo” (the
random improvisation generator App)
● Once received:
● 30 seconds (timer on screen) to create Characters, develop a Relationship,
select an Objective, and discover your Location to perform in a short skit
● All groups perform their product and receive feedback from peers/engage in
self-reflection
○ In this context, volunteers may perform or explain their improvisation
