The importance of exporting

 Companies must be clear about why

they want to export. For some it may be
to diversify markets and not depend
exclusively on the local economy, for
others the will to gain experience and
alliances with foreign companies, or also
the search for sales in greater volume.
Steps to follow to export goods

 Register as an exporter.
 Market study and location of potential
demand.
 Location of the tariff position.
 Approval Procedures.
 Customs procedures for clearance before
DIAN.
 Payment methods.
 Foreign exchange procedures or refund.
Register as an exporter

Process the Single Tax Registry (RUT) at any

DIAN or SuperCade office.
Market study and location of potential
demand

Select the market in which you want to

enter. Identify the characteristics of the
country where it will be exported, such as
consumer preferences and regulations.
Location of the tariff position

Locate the tariff subheading of your product

through the customs tariff or in the
Information Center of your city.
Approval Procedures

Consult the DIAN if your product requires

prior permits for export authorization. After
processing, you must submit the Application
for Shipment Authorization to the DIAN
computer system.
Customs procedures for clearance before
the DIAN

When you have the merchandise ready

check negotiation terms.
You can use a freight or maritime agent to
hire international transportation.
In the DIAN of the Port, Airport or Border
Crossing, you can request the Shipment
Authorization Request.
If the export is worth more than USD10,000,
this procedure must be done through a
Customs Agency.
Payment methods

There are different means of international

payment: bank transfers, letters of credit,
guaranteed letters, standby guarantees.
Foreign exchange procedures or refund

You must reimburse the currencies through

the exchange market intermediaries, such
as: commercial banks and other financial
entities.
