Overview of MAHSR Project and NHSRCL

o The project started in 2012 with initial discussions between Govt. of India
and Govt. of Japan. Prefeasibility was drawn by 2013.

o The project has been approved vide CCEA/31/2015 dtd. 09.12.2015

o National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) is a Special Purpose


Vehicle of Govt. of India through Ministry of Railways, Govt of
Maharashtra and Govt. Of Gujrat.

o Mumbai –Ahmedabad High Speed Railway Project (MAHSR) is being


financed by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA).

o MAHSR Project has been declared as Vital Government Project by Govt.


of Maharashtra

o On 14th September 2017, the Hon. Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra
Modi and Hon. Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Shinzo Abe laid the foundation
stone for the first High Speed project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad

o The Target date of Commissioning is 15 th August 2022

Project Benefits

oReduction in travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from 6.5 hrs
to 2 hrs.

oMajor connectivity boost to less developed areas, potential for


development of new production bases and townships along the corridor.

oBoost to construction industry, technological enhancement of Railways,


long term infrastructure development.

oCreation of temporary and permanent employment.


oDecongestion of existing rail, road, and air traffic between Mumbai and
Ahmedabad

oReduction in Green house gas emissions due to more efficient mode of


transport

• Rapid train will take around 2 hours from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.


• The numbers of train and train configuration will increase in phases with
the growth of demand
• Operation of low fare seat train is subject to detailed discussion in the
future because separated operation between basic and low fare train sets
are required
