FINAL INSPECTION

• Inspecting finished garments from the customers

point of view
– Size measurement
– Form fitting
• Live modeling (if necessary)
• Can be done before or after garments are packed
• Usually third party inspection by QA from buying
house before shipment
• Checking done based on measurement chart
Sample Measurement sheet / Spec sheet
How much to inspect?
• Can we do away with inspection? – no
inspection
– Risk of defective material being put into process
– Labor, machine time is wasted
– Rework cost
– Loss of goodwill if defective garment reaches end
consumer
• Do we need 100% inspection?
– Prohibitive cost & time consuming
– Human inspection might falter even @ 100%
inspection
Spot checking
• Compromise between no inspection and 100%
inspection
• Done randomly
• Not entirely effective in stopping defective
products from reaching consumers
Arbitrary sampling
• Certain percent of a shipment is rejected
• Decision to accept / reject the entire shipment is
based on inspection results of that certain
percent
• This is a fixed percent regardless of the size of
shipment
• Most widely used 10% sampling
• Drawback: one fixed percent might not suit all
size of shipment
Statistical sampling
• Also known as acceptance sampling
• Based on random sampling
• Need to know about
– Sample
– Lot or Batch
– Lot or Batch size
– Per cent defective
– AQL

Advantages of statistical sampling
• No over inspection / under inspection
• Risk of making a wrong decision are known
and controllable
• Most practical and economical
• Flexible with regard to
– the amount of inspection to be done
– Product quality
– Importance of product
