COURSE DESCRIPTION
 Designed for PT students to develop a strong background knowledge regarding
community health, well-being and community based rehabilitation.

 It also gives knowledge about the issues of community health, policies and
procedures for their effective rehabilitation management.

 It provide awareness about the problems faced by people in community at all


levels and effective strategies to solve these issues
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

 Describe impact of environmental, biological, social and behavioral risk factors on


health and disease through the epidemiologic methods.
 Discuss agent, host and environmental factors determining health and disease.
 Describe complete nutritional assessment of individual using clinical, Anthropometric
and diet survey tools
 Discuss the community health, diagnosis and to take remedial measure for
improving community health

WHO DEFINITION:
 A system of delivery of comprehensive health care to the people by a health team
in order to improve the health of the community
HEALTH TEAM
• A group of persons who share a common health goal and common objectives
determined by community needs and towards the achievement of which each member
of the team contributes in accordance with his/her competence and skills and
respecting the function of others.
PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
 The science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting physical
and mental health and efficiency.
PUBLIC HEALTH
The science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting physical
and mental health and efficiency through organized community efforts for;

- The sanitation of the environment


- Organizing the medical and nursing services for the early diagnosis, prompt
treatment of disease and prevention of disease
-The development of the social machinery that will ensure t every individual in the
community a standard of living adequate for maintenance of health.
PROGRAM
 Ongoing activity which is carried out for an indefinite period of time till the
achievement of objectives according to the specification

Vertical P:
A single program of health service for the community
E.g. EPI
Staff is concerned only with one activity
