• Of course when one talks about future homes it is always tempting to
either mention “The Jetsons”.

• Future homes will be located in all locations on Earth plus beyond the
planet’s atmosphere as well. First, let’s take a look at where some of
the futuristic homes of today are located and then make some
predictions on where we are headed.
Modern Earth Sheltered Home

• In the U. S. there are

approximately 6,000
underground or earth sheltered
homes to date. Many of these
homes are equipped with
advanced energy conservation
and generation features such as
solar panels, solar windows and
smart home technology.
• This is all technology that is here now, today. So, let’s ratchet this
discussion up a notch as to what future homes will look like near-
term (5 – 10 years). Researchers have already discovered thin film
solar technology and applied this to windows so that every window
in your home or office can be a power generator.
Future Solar Home on Water

• In the near-term we can expect

future homes to use similar
technology over the entire
house. Each future home will be
its own power generation
station. Many future homes will
be tied into the grid so that they
may even out power distribution
to those homeowners and
businesses that have not made
the transition yet.
UNDERWATER HOUSE
• For the New York World's Fair in 1964,
General Motors introduced a strange
idea for the Futurama II Pavilion. GM
engineers imagined a world where
humanity had conquered the sea
using tiny car-like submersibles to get
around.

• While we don’t really have much in

terms of underwater colonies, this
might be the closest the past has
come to getting it right. We do have
small underwater submersibles that
are going on expeditions to the
furthest reaches of the ocean at
depths never before seen.

It's pretty nice to sit around and let a
robot vacuum the carpet for you but
it's just the beginning. You can
already buy robots that mop, clean
your pool, and feed your pets. Pretty
soon they'll all be connected to one
device that you can set up a
schedule so they'll automatically do
their task.
• Doors That Will Recognize You
The door will automatically lock
after you leave and open when you
arrive when it scans your face.
• Smart Toilet
There are already smart toilets, but
soon your toilet is going to be able
to analyze your health in real time.
Whether you want health
information from your toilet is
another question.
• More Bedrooms
Porch came up with a report that
looked at census data to predict
what a house will look like in about
20 years and believes that houses
will have more bedrooms. Porch
predicts houses will have three or
four bedrooms in the future.
• Smart Walls
Smart walls seem kind of silly on the
surface but they could mean never
having to paint or decorate those
walls. A smart wall will change colors
to fit a mood or like this wall,
replicate a sunrise.
• Smart refrigerators
You may not know that the milk in
your fridge is past its expiration date,
but the smart refrigerators of the
future will be able to tell you,
Canton says. And not only can they
inform you, the refrigerators will be
able to order replacement food and
then let you know that they've done
so with a text.
• Smart washing machines and
dryers
Forgot to start a load of laundry?
Smart washing machines will let you
operate the washing machine
remotely by using your phone.
