Introduction
• This study aims to enable students to overcome
the challenges they mostly encountered in terms
of communication skills specifically speaking and
writing skills. Both speaking and writing skills are
significant because it is used to communicate
effectively. Without communication, people cannot
share information, ask questions and express their
needs in daily living.

• English Language has been accepted as our
universal language so that in primary education,
teachers have already taught us basic lessons to
help everyone in developing one’s skills. But today,
most senior high school students are seeing
difficulties in expressing their feelings using English
Language even in writing essays, short stories,
poems and other forms of literature. The fear in
terms of grammatical errors when speaking is truly
a challenge for them that affects their self-
confidence and self-esteem as an individual.

• To be able to improve speaking skills, make sure to
listen first because a good speaker should be a good
listener as well. Not focusing on grammars but on
how to speak fluency is also a way to improve it.
They may improve also these skills by the tasks
given by a teacher, it will help them in the future to
be hired easily as seafarers. Just be yourself and do
not let anyone judge you as a person.
Statement of the Problem
1. What are the socio-demographic profile of the
respondents?
2. What are the most commonly encountered challenges
of SHS PBM students in terms of speaking and writing
skills?
3. How did the impact of those challenges affects in
school?
4. How did one environment affects the speaking and
writing skills of SHS PBM students?
5. How did the respondents cope with in improving their
speaking and writing skills?
Objectives of the Study
This study aims to:
1. Determine the socio-demographic profile of the
respondents;
2. Identify the common encountered challenges of SHS
PBM students in terms of speaking and writing skills.
3. Determine what are the impact of those challenges in
school.
4. Explain how did one environment affects the speaking
and writing skills of SHS PBM students; and
5. Examine how did the respondents cope with in
improving their speaking and writing skills.
Scope and Delimitation
This study entitled Challenges Encountered by the
SHS PBM Students of Midway Colleges in Terms of
Speaking and Writing Skills is limited only on the
selected grade 11 and 12 PBM students which was
conducted during 1st Semester of Academic 2019-
2020 in Midway Colleges, Inc.
Significance of the Study
• Significance of the Study
• This study entitled Challenges Encountered by the
SHS PBM Students of Midway Colleges in Terms of
Speaking and Writing Skills will be beneficial to the
following:
For Future Seafarers
This study will help them to be excellent on their speaking and
writing skills so that they can use these said skills to help them on
making their resume before applying in a company.

For Students
This study will help them to know the technique on how to
improve their speaking and writing skills and to be more skilled
about it.

For Parents:
This study will inform the parents about the possible challenges
on speaking and writing skills that experienced by their children.
This study would help to teach them the best way on how to
speak and write with excellency.
For the School
This study will guide the teachers on what teaching
strategies they need for the students to learn how to
express themselves using English Language.

For the Community


This study will open up their mind in the challenges that
they might encountered on their studies or workplace.
They can also share this study to anyone around them to
be informed.
For the Researchers
This study will help the researchers to easily gather
information about the study and also to be
knowledgeable about the challenges they may encounter
on speaking and writing.
Hypothesis

-There are no significant relationship between the


challenges encountered by the SHS PBM students of
Midway Colleges in terms of speaking and writing
across the profile variables.
