Fat AP usage scene

Use scenario 1: common scenario

There is only one (or several Sundray APs, no wireless controller (wireless controller:
for unified management of APs), which needs to be used separately.

1. When the AP as a gateway, it can directly connect to the ISP line, and can dial( PPPoE)
and automatically obtain the address connection network.
2. The AP accesses the internal network, and the Internet port automatically obtains the
address connection network.

Use scenario 2: e-book bag scene

The fat AP e-book bag scene, using multicast technology, in the same classroom, the
teacher and student's e-book terminal as a multicast group, the teacher controls the terminal,
to achieve the student's courseware synchronization. When multiple students access the same
video, the use of multicast technology can greatly reduce the workload pressure on network
devices and improve work efficiency.

Troubleshoot Tool installation

1、PC first install WinPcap (can also install Wireshark, which comes with this plugin)
2、Download the troubleshoot client, download from controller ([Maintenance] – [Remote Debugging] – [Device
Diagnostics]-[Download Device Diagnostics Tool])

Run Troubleshoot

1、Ensure that the PC (wired connection) is in a Layer 2 environment with the AP and then run the troubleshoot
client. The computer and the AP need to be connected to the same Layer 2 environment, that is, the same
network segment. For example, a computer direct network cable is connected to an AP or a computer and an AP
are connected to the same Layer 2 switch.

2、Select the wired network adapter used at this time to start scanning

After scanning the AP and clicking Start Configuration, you can view the AP current mode

1、If the scanned AP is a fat AP, you can configure it directly.
2、If the [Mode] in the scan result is fit mode, choose the AP, click [Tool] - [change mode ], select [Fat Mode], and
the AP will automatically restart after clicking [OK] (as shown in the figure). Power off. The switch can be
completed in about 2 minutes. After the switch is completed, you can rescan and confirm that the AP has switched to
fat mode.
Note: After clicking OK to switch,
you will be prompted to enter your
password. The password is admin (if it is
a new AP password). If the AP was
previously activated by the controller, the
password is the login password of the step1 step2
controller. If the password is incorrect,
you can only reset the AP (reset the AP
method: long press the reset button until
the network port light or status light goes
out and then release). After reset, the
password is admin.

3. If [Mode] is empty in the scan result, you need to click the last column [setting]. You can see the software version
of the AP and upgrade the AP without entering a password. The upgrade method is as follows:
1. Configure an IP address for the AP. Scan the AP in troubleshoot, click on the last [setting], enter the password.

2 The computer Ethernet card address is configured as the same network segment address. Configure
the computer as shown below

3、Download the fat AP upgrade client and run it. Enter the AP address and password (password
is dlanrecover), click to connect

4. After clicking [Connect], select the upgrade package corresponding to the AP model (the AP upgrade package
needs to be contacted by the equipment supplier or local office colleagues) to upgrade. The AP is upgraded. At this
point, note that the AP must not be powered off. If the power is turned off, the AP will not work properly.

4. After the upgrade is successful, scan the AP again with troubleshoot. If it is displayed as thin mode, follow the
above operation to switch the AP to fat mode.

The computer Ethernet card is configured with the address of 192.168.100.2. You can log in to the AP page through
192.168.100.1 in the browser (or log in to the AP through the AP diagnostic tool). The login user name and password are both
admin. You need to change the password for the first login.

Configure the WAN , Support static IP, PPPoE, and automatic acquisition. This article takes static IP as an example.
Configure the local subnet. There are 4 VLANs. The vlan ID can be modified. You can enable DHCP.

Create an SSID in Client_AP to do the effect test. Whether the bridge is successful, you can see
the status of each other on Root_AP and Client_AP respectively.

Summery

1. The applicable scenario of the fat AP is a scenario in which the AP is used alone and is not
used with the controller, for example, a normal dialing scenario, an e-bag scenario, and the
like.

2. Use the troubleshoot to determine the mode of the AP.

3. If the mode is fat mode, directly configure the fat AP;

If the mode is thin mode, you need to switch to fat AP and then configure it.
If the mode is empty, you need to upgrade and then use the troubleshoot to check it’s
mode again.
