Depression occurs in persons
of all genders,ages and
backgrounds.
It is a common illness
affecting 121million people
worldwide.
It is among the leading
disability in the world.
It affects18.8 million

An estimated one in 10 Americans suffer
from depression.
15% of the population of most developing
countries suffer from depression.
India ranks 5th in depression with a rate of
1,400 persons affected every year.
Hundreds and thousands of medications
are given out each year to treat

Biological or biochemical factors:-
It is caused by Biochemical imbalances in brain.
The chemical messengers in brain called as
“Neurotransmitters” allow communication across nerves that
connect different regions of brain.
The “mood regulating’’ monoamine type of neurotransmitters
namely Noradrenaline(NA)and Serotonin (5HT) fail to function
normally.

Ex:- Death of a loved one , loss of job, physical abuse,
family troubles etc.
