Introduction
Concentrated Solar PV cells are used to produce electricity by photovoltaic effect
Fresnel lens are used to concentrate sunlight and increase the Solar Energy per unit area
Nanofluids are mixtures of nanoparticles and water having optimised thermal properties
Nanoparticle are particles at Nanometer level
Solar PV Cells efficiency varies with the Temperature of the cell
Nanofluids is used as coolant to avoid overheating and respective malfunctioning of the
PV cells
Literature Review
• Sala, G., 1989, discussed cooling of solar cells, considering passive cooling through
radiation, natural convection and conduction, as well as forced liquid cooling.
• Royne provided a comprehensive review of cooling techniques for CPV systems and
compared different types of cooling devices with applications on single, linear, and
densely packed cells.
• More recently, Michele reviewed the use of micro- and Nano-technologies for CPV
cooling, focusing on the use of nanofluids for natural convection and micro heat pipe
cooling
Objectives
Simulate Nanofluid cooling on Concentrated Solar Photovoltaic Cells
Analysis of PV cell efficiency using various Nanofluids and flowrate
Devise an experimental model
Maximize the working efficiency of a Solar PV cell
Methodology
• Simulation using ANSYS fluent.
• Fabrication of an Experimental setup.
• Assemblage of data about standard solar PV cells-and their efficiency, Nanofluids and
their thermal properties
