Introduction
What is a robot?
A robot is a mechanical or virtual intelligent agent
that can perform tasks automatically or with
guidance, typically by remote control.
A robot is an electro-mechanical machine that is
guided by computer and electronic programming.
Robots can be autonomous, semi-autonomous or
remotely controlled.

Introduction
What is Line Follower?
 Line follower is a machine that can follow a path.
The path can be visible like a black line on a white
surface (or viceversa) or it can be invisible like a
magnetic field.
Why to built a Line follower?
Automated cars running on roads with embedded
magnets(ESC electronic stability control), guidance
system for industrial robots moving on shop floor
etc.

Introduction
 In many manufacturing factories moving of heavy
equipment and metals needs tremendous man-power.

 Can also be used in dangerous environments, Where

human penetration could be fatal.

 The path can be magnetic field which is invisible or a

black line on a white paper which is visible.

 This can be used as carrying children in shopping malls

and entertainment places cause.

Title And Aims

Title:
Automatic Heavy Load Carriers for Warehouses

Aim:
To design and develop automatic Heavy Load carriers for
warehouses

Motivation
 How ants always travel in a line, following an invisible
route in search of food, or back home.
 How on roads the lanes is followed to avoid accidents
and traffic jams.
 Ever thought about a robot which follows line?

 After all the purpose of robotics is to recreate in

terms of machines what one see around to solve a
problem or fulfill a requirement.

Objectives
Move forward searching for a black line on a white
surface.
Generate control commands to follow a detected
black line.
If any obstacle interferes IR sensor detects and
stop the motor then buzzer beeps.
As the obstacle removed from the way of system it
moves.

IR Transmitter & Receiver
IR TRANSMITTER ( EMITTING DIODE)
 The IR LED emitting infrared light is put on in the transmitting
unit. IR or VISIBLE light is emitted from the emitter
 This emitted light strikes the surface and gets reflected back. If
the surface is white, more intensity of light gets reflected and for
black surface very less intensity of light is reflected.
IR RECEIVER (PHOTODETECTOR)
 Used to detect the intensity of light reflected. The
corresponding analog voltage is induced based on the intensity
of reflected light, which further compared by comparator and
output send as 0 or 1.

Obstacle Detection process

Working Principle
 The middle sensor will always be on the line and as the
line is black in color
 it will not reflect the emitted radiation back and the
response of the sensor will be low and the response of
the remaining two sensors will be high as they will be
on the bright surface.
 When both sensors are on black line then robot moves
forward. If all the three sensors will be on brighter
surface then they all will be high and as no line is
detected , robot move in a circular motion until line is
found

Obtained Outcomes
Can move heavy equipment without man-power.

More work done in particular time.

System movement is automatic.

Executes most of the instructions in single cycle.

Consumes less power compared to load its

carrying. 18

Application
 Line follower Robots are commonly used for
automation process in industries, military applications
and consumer applications.
They are very useful as they can work without any
supervision i.e. they work as automatic guided
vehicles.
With additional features like obstacle avoidance and
other security measures, line follower robots can be
used in driver less cars.

Conclusions
 The robot was finally running with a few glitches here
and there which were sorted in the later revisions of
the firmware.
 In end we created a circuit that enabled our robot to
follow line based on the light reflected off the ground.
 The robot is capable of following the lines by
comparing light on either side of the different through
this project.
 we have learned the basics of electronic circuits,
motors, sensors, basics of microcontroller and
installation programming into microcontroller

Team Experience
 Enhance scope in brainstorming to get more better ideas.
 Working as a team portrays the strength and weakness of
an individual and assist each other accordingly.
 Improves our skills while working in a team because as a
team there will be access to people with different skills
and abilities.
 Motivates us to welcome and learn new and innovative
concepts.
 To help us view and solve a particular problem from
different angles which gives clarity to a particular subject
in a broader spectrum.
