Management
 What is Management:

 Planning: What is to be done

 Organizing: Making arrangements
 Staffing: Selecting right people for the job
 Directing: Giving instructions
 Monitoring: Checking on progress
 Controlling: Taking actions to remedy Hold-ups
 Innovating: Coming up with new solutions
 Representing: Liaising with the users
Project Management
What is Project Management?

We can divide project management into

different Phases.

1. Initiating the process:

Defines different phases of the Project.
Project Management
2. Planning the process:

In this process we design and refine objectives and plan

the best alternative courses of action to attain the
objectives and scope that the project or phase was
undertaken to address

Some key points to be considered for planning are:

 Determine Requirements
 Determine Resources
 Select Lifecycle Model
 Determine Product features strategy
Project Management
3. Executing the Process:

Trigers people and other resources to carry out the project

management plan for the project.

4. Monitoring and Controlling the Process:

Progress of the project is measured and monitored on
regular basis to identify the differences from the project
management plan so that proper action can be taken to
take the project on the correct path. (Monitoring the work
being done and tracking Cost, Efforts and Schedule)
Project Management
5. Closing the process:

Complete all the formality of the product for

acceptance and bring the project to a proper
and organize ending.

Project Management is application of knowledge,

skills, tools and techniques to meet project
requirements.
Project Management

The more you know about your project the better you are
able to manage it.
Software Project Management

Software Project Management is distinct from

managing any other project due to complexity
involved in the development process
Software Project Management
Reasons due to which the software project becomes more
complex:
Product: Combination of different programs functions
routines and sub routines that integrate and perform the
required functionalities

Visibility: The product has no shape or size which could

be measured

Monitoring: Traditional method of measuring the

performance can not be applied on Software.
Software Project Management
Reasons due to which the software project becomes
more complex:
Sensitivity: As software's are becoming more critical
the margin of errors are becoming very limited near to
none.

Quality Assurance: Techniques to streamline and

measure Software development are comparatively new
and as yet
