EPWP TRAINING PLANERY MEETING

09 OCTOBER 2019
INTRODUCTION
• The presentation covers the information on a CWP piggery
and poultry farming projects in Lepelle-Nkumpi
Municipality in Capricorn district.
• The names of the project are: Tlemagano Piggery Co-
operative in ward 03 GaMolapo village and Mahlontebe
Poultry in ward 01 at Klipheuwel village.
• Topics to receive attention under this presentation cover the
following:
1. Project Background
2. Project Readiness
3. Learner Placement during workplace component
2
SHORT PROJECT BACKGROUND

• Tlemagano Piggery co-operative is formed by 07 (seven)

CWP participants who rear pigs.
• The group currently has 23 pigs in stock.
• This project is one of the CWP projects ear- marked to exit
the programme on condition its business plan projections
are realized.
• The plan is to have the project reach a target of 100
breeding sows with 04 boars. This will be the break even
point of the project. The target date for exit is 2021.
• Mahlontebe Poultry is co-operative formed by 07 CWP
participants who rear chicken.
• Their production cycle involves raising 100 chickens 3
PROJECT READINESS

• The groups are respectively ready for any form of

training.
• The piggery group needs training in commercial pork
production, focusing on good pig management skills
such as health and disease management.
• The poultry group also need training on current
technical chicken rearing skills and basic cash flow
management.

4
LEARNER PLACEMENT DURING WORKPLACE COMPONENT

• The Piggery group has five hectare land which needs to be

fully developed into a proper piggery outfit with all
amenities.
• The poultry group currently operates in a home stead
premises and are in the process of getting land from the
headman.
• Both groups do not need any placement for their practicals
because they already have units in which they are already
engaged on daily basis. This already serve as their
placement. Any technical tutoring or practicals to be
demonstrated by the training instructor, will be carried out
on the existing structures though not adequate enough.
5
CONCLUSION

• The affected participants have great passion for what

they are doing and this is the exact recipe for their success.
The groups go an extra mile of committing their energies to
their projects on days that they are not on CWP useful work
days.
• It is hoped both projects will reach break-even thresholds of
100 sows and 5000 chickens respectively. Soon as this is
realised, the process of link them with commercial markets
will start, because it will then be certain that the groups will
meet the commercial supply or demand requirements.
