• Bgy. Sta. Mercedes is one of the 27 Baranggays of

the Municipality of Maragondon, Cavite
• A small fishing village with less than a hundred
families
• Maragondon has a population of 37,720 in 2015, it
has 6,962 population in age group between 20-29.

A study was conducted in Sta. Mercedes and its neighbor

village, Barangay Putat, Nasugbo where a total of 270
children were examined by health professionals.

The study found out that 98 out 270 were positive with
pinworm infection mostly between 6-8 years (male and
female ) 53 out 145 children in coastal areas were infected.

Poor sanitation and environmental challenges are identified as

main reasons of the infection.
