The party
The band at this party is playing very loudly. The happy pair

Countable Nouns

COUNTABLE NOUNS are nouns that we can count. We use the indefinite article (a/ an) or definite
They can be singular or plural. article (the) before singular nouns.
Ex: a boiled egg or the egg in the refrigerator

Countable Nouns
We change most singular nouns to plurals by adding –s.
However, there are some that do not follow the rule.

Nouns ending in -o +s or +es pianos, zoos, tomatoes, potatoes, heroes
Nouns ending in a vowel + -y +s boys, cats, days, monkeys,

Uncountable Nouns
UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS are nouns that we cannot If we want to show the amount of an uncountable noun, we
count. We cannot count them because they: use quantity words in front of it.
• are too difficult to count. e.g. two cups of tea
e.g. rice, hair, sugar a bowl of rice
• do not have separate parts. three tins of paint
e.g. air, water, steam
• are abstract.

Uncountable nouns do not have a plural form. We cannot use many/few with uncountable nouns, but we
