This document reviews basic statistics concepts. It discusses the differences between parametric and nonparametric statistics, noting that parametric statistics assumes normally distributed data and can be applied to interval and ratio data, while nonparametric statistics deals with nominal and ordinal data without assumptions of normal distributions. It also mentions levels of measurement and provides guidance on selecting the appropriate statistical tool based on the type of data.

Parametric Statistics deals with measured data as with ratios
and interval data. It assumes that the data are normally or nearly normally distributed. It is applied to both interval and ratio-scaled data.
Non-parametric Statistics deals with counted or ranked
data such as the nominal and ordinal data. It is also known as distribution-free tests, do not rest upon the more stringent assumption of normally-distributed population. Levels of Measurement Guide in Selecting Statistical Tool
