INTRODUCTION :
• In this project we try to count visitors in a given hall/ auditorium, display it on a LCD screen
and further determine the state of electrical devices present in the hall/auditorium/any public
place.
• Through this project we have tried to show a smart way to control the power consumption
and power saving in auditoriums, shopping malls and theatres etc.
• Depending on the count, devices will be in ON or OFF state.
• A Microcontroller is used to control all the devices present in the auditorium.
• Through this we can envision energy conservation in day to day life.

3
MOTIVATION :

• Today power/current is a most valuable thing in the world. So we have to save the power to
give for our next generation. Automatic controlling systems are preferred over manual
controlling for energy conservation.
• This design of power controlling and saving project can handle controlling of electrical and
electronic devices, appliances etc. in a public place which switches ON/OFF the appliances as
per requirements.
• If some/all number of person enter in the auditorium then it switches on all the appliances. If 0
person are in, then it switches OFF all devices without fail. This is too hard to maintain
properly and manually. If suddenly any problem arise, it is very difficult to find out.
• To overcome these types of problems we are motivated to develop a system that can maintain
all the appliances with high efficiency.

LITERATURE SURVEY :

 There are some projects undertaken for smart control of electrical equipments at public places like
auditoriums, shopping malls, theaters etc. Various technologies can been used to implement it, keeping
Energy Conservation as our main motto. Following are the few projects that used microcontroller as the
base similar to our project.
 Sunil Kumar.Matangi, Sateesh.Prathapani[1]. The main aim of this paper is to design and employ of power
saving in general public places like auditoriums, shopping malls and theatres etc.To control and monitor all these equipments
or appliances we need a person or controlling system. This paper describes the complete working of electrical and electronic
devices with automatic control and also power saving in theatres, shopping malls and auditoriums. To implement this they
have used MCS 51 family microcontroller, IR sensors/LDR (Light Dependent Resister), 16X2 LCD (Liquid Crystal Display).
MCS 51 family Microcontroller is used to control the total operation.
 Nikita Bagali, Prof. Geeta Navalyal[2]. In this research paper, they have proposed a system to analyze the power
usage in gathering hall/auditorium by developing a visitor counter.
 Venkataramana Sarparapu, Kranthi Kumar[3]. Automatic controlling systems are preferred over manual
controlling. The design of power controlling and saving project can handle controlling of electrical and electronic devices,
appliances etc. Through this project we have tried to show a smart way to control the power consumption and power saving in
Auditoriums, Shopping malls and Theatres etc.

5
OBJECTIVE :
• The objective of our project is to control the Auditorium and Industrial appliances depending on the presence of
audience in the auditorium.
• Detecting the number of people present in the auditorium.
• Guiding the audience to the un-occupied rows starting from the first row.
• Through guiding our main motto of power saving is achieved.

6
COMPONENTS USED :

• Power supply Circuit (+5V & + 12V)

• Microcontroller (8051)
• Sensor Circuit (LDR)
• LCD (16 X 2)
• NPN transistors (BC547)
• Relay (SPDT)
• Variable resistor (10k POT) & Resistances
• Crystal Oscillator

7
PROPOSED TECHNIQUE :

• The two IR sensors/LDRs are directly connected to the microcontroller pins 12 13 ( p3.213) . The output
of the two sensors are applied as a high pulse and low pulse. These high and low pulses are considered as
set – 1 and reset –0 . And these conditions are checked by the microcontroller as per the written
code/dumped code in it.

• Code is written in assembly language. The IR sensors detect entrance & count the no. of persons in the
auditorium. Then lights, fans, other electronic and electrical appliances are switched ON automatically, as
per the count given in the code.. In the opposite way the IR sensors detect exit & the no. of persons leaving
from the auditorium. If all leave the auditorium then automatically the devices (fan, light.etc.) goes OFF.

• If no person in auditorium then all the devices go OFF. This is done by microcontroller switching without
having any human interference. So using this electronic circuit we can reduce 99% human efforts in
controlling the all appliances in auditorium. While doing this operation the circuit is able to display the no.
of persons in auditorium on the 16x2 LCD display.

• The microcontroller (AT89S52) and other circuits ( sensor & relay) get the power supply
from AC to DC adapter through 7805, 5V regulator. The adapter output voltage will be
12V DC non-regulated.

Power circuit
10
• Microcontroller (8051)
Flash memory : 8Kb
RAM : 256 Bits
I/O pins : 32
Timers : 3

• Embedded system, used here is a

special-purpose computer controlled
system in which the computer( here the
microcontroller) is completely
encapsulated by the device it controls.

MICROCONTROLLER ( PIN DIAGRAM)

11
• Sensors: To detect the entry/exit of a
person we here use Light Dependent
Resistor (LDR), the resistance of a
Photoresistor decreases with increase in
light, and a signal accordingly can be
given to the microcontroller(for a
compliment signal to be sent NOT gate
is used).
• Output signal fed to MCU, logic is 0 or 1.
• O/P is ‘0’ when a person passes, and ‘1’
otherwise.

SENSOR CIRCUIT

12V
• Relay:
• A relay is an electrically operated
electromechantical device. To control a circuit
by a low-power signal, relays are used. It is
used to control the load.
BC547
• Operating voltage : 12V

RELAY CIRCUIT

13
• LCD MODULE :

• Operating Voltage is 4.7V to 5.3V

• 8 data pins, RS, RW, E, VCC, GND.
• Consists of two rows and each row can print 16
characters.
• Each character/segment is build by a 5×8 pixel
box.
• Each character has (5×8=40) 40 Pixels and for 32
Characters/segments we will have (32×40) 1280
Pixels.

14
• Load Appliances:

The different types of loads that can being used are:

• Fan and Light of any type.
• Electrical/ Electronic appliances like AC, Smoke detectors etc.
• Camera for surveillance
• Alarm or Buzzer

AUDITORIUM AUTOMATION CIRCUIT 16
FUTURE SCOPE:
• Auditorium automation
• Automatic classroom attendance
• Person-counter ( Factory, Railway stations etc.)
• Theater automation
• Home automation
• Common restroom, for lights & exhaust fans
• Common staircases
• In parking area
• For garden lights
Overall industry automation will contribute to :
1. Reduced costs : as lesser labour force will be required in various fields;
2. Improved quality : As machines will perform less errors than their human
alternatives;
3. Improved Efficiency : Increased speed of turning ON/OFF the appliances;
4. Increased Human Safety.
17
CONCLUSION:

• In this experimental setup, we are able to turn automatically the appliances ON or OFF as
required. By implementing this setup, we can expect more power conservation and high
efficiency with reduced costs.
• In this paper we have developed a real time model that can control and monitor the
complete status of all appliances of any place like auditorium, shopping mall, theatre,
school, college, bus stand etc. automatically without having human interference and also
display the number on LCD screen. Striving for lower power wastage and human efforts.
• It monitors the entrance and exits of the auditorium so that we need not to check manually.
This system has a lot of advantages such as simple structure, small size, low power
consumption, low cost and stable.
