The Malawi Project

What is the Malawi Project?

Every year, the college takes a

group of 16-18 students to
Blantyre, Malawi

The aim of the trip is to for

LSFC students to experience
Life and culture in a third world
country, and to give support
and aid.

Where is Malawi?

About Malawi – The warm heart of Africa

• Malawi is a landlocked country in southeast Africa. It is

bordered by Zambia, Tanzania, and Mozambique.

• It is the third poorest country in the world.

• Its capital is Lilongwe, which is also Malawi's largest city; the

second largest is Blantyre- this is where we stay

• Malawi is one of the world's worst-hit by HIV-Aids and home

to more than one million children orphaned by the disease.

About Malawi
• Malawi has a low life expectancy and
high infant mortality.
• The high prevalence of HIV/AIDS is a
drain on the labour force and
government expenditures.
• There is a diverse population of native
peoples, with several languages
spoken and an array of religious
beliefs (Christianity and Islam being
most common)
• The people are some of the friendliest
you will ever meet!

About Malawi

Malawi is among the world's least-developed countries. The

economy is heavily based in agriculture, with a largely rural
population.
English has to be learnt for children to take exams, so poor
English is a barrier to progression and can lead to life in poverty.

The Challenge
