ANIMAL FEED MILLING:

GRINDING
WHAT IS GRINDING IN ANIMAL FEED MANUFACTURING?

Grinding or particle-size reduction is a major function of feed

manufacturing. Many feed mills pass all incoming ingredients through a
grinder for several reasons:
a) clumps and large fragments are reduced in size,
b) some moisture is removed due to aeration, and
c) additives such as antioxidants may be blended.
WHAT ARE THE MACHINES USED FOR GRINDING
PROCESS IN ANIMAL FEED MANUFACTURING?

1. Vertical Hammer Mill

2. Horizontal Hammer Mill
3. Cracking Mill
4. Pellet Crumbler
VERTICAL HAMMER MILL
The vertical mill is a very compact machine designed to
take up less space and offer the user a high level of production
capacity with reduced energy consumption.
With its vertical grinding shaft, this pre-grinding hammer
mill can deliver up to 25% energy savings. A small footprint,
change-over and sanitation benefits make it ideal for animal
feed, grain/oil milling and biomass industries.
HORIZONTAL HAMMER MILL

Horizontal hammer mill is a high efficiency

grinder for size reduction in feed and food processing
industries. Generally applied for dry materials with a
bulk density of 0.2 − 0.8 𝑘𝑔Τ𝑑𝑚3 , it convinces
through high production flexibility and minimal
downtime.
KEY BENEFITS OF A HORIZONTAL HAMMER MILL

High throughput.
The high hammer tip speed produce a powerful
impact with the material particles, generating a
throughput of up to 57 tons/hr for coarse grinding and
22 tons/hr for fine grinding, depending on the recipes.
This provides efficient grinding for livestock feeds, pet
food and aqua feed, as well as for grain milling
applications.
KEY BENEFITS OF A HORIZONTAL HAMMER MILL

High production flexibility

The possibly of equipping the hammer mill with a
board range of screens is what makes it suitable for fine and
coarse grinding applications (with screen hole diameters of
0.8 to 8.0mm). Raw materials of up to 60 mm can be
efficiently crushed and coarsely ground to particle sizes of
400 to 1000 micrometers. Materials of up to 10 mm can be
finely ground to particle sizes of 50 to 400 micrometers.
KEY BENEFITS OF A HORIZONTAL HAMMER MILL
Safe to use and easy to maintain.
The combination of several features like a large door
for an easy access, the frameless screen design and a
hammer bar locking mechanism allow fast and easy
cleaning and maintenance. No tools are needed to change
screens or hammers. The hammer mill door is interlocked
with the rotor so no accidental opening is possible during
operation. The grinding chamber offers complete access for
wear part replacement and maintenance. Changing of
screens and hammers is possible without the need for tools.
CRACKING MILL

The high performance cracking mill is for

optimal processing of oilseeds and various
applications in the feed milling industry,
providing an unrivaled ease of maintenance, full
automation control as well as highest throughput
rates. It is available in a modular design with up
to 3 roll pairs, 2 different roll lengths and
diameters.
PELLET CRUMBLER

This grinder is applied for crumbling feed

pellets and for size reduction applications in
multistage grinding systems in various industries.
The modular concept allows a combination of up
to 3 crushing stages in one crumbler with
optional automatic roll gap adjustment system.
ANIMAL FEED MILLING:
MIXING
WHAT IS MIXING IN ANIMAL FEED MANUFACTURING?

The objective of feed mixing is to start with a certain assortment of

ingredients called a "formula", totalling some definite weight. This is processed
so that each small unit of the whole, either a mouthful or a day's feeding, is the
same proportion as the original formula. Mixing is recognized as an empirical
unit operation, which means that it is more of an art than a science and must be
learned by experience.
WHAT IS MIXING IN ANIMAL FEED MANUFACTURING?

The term "mixed" can mean either blended, implying

uniformity, or made up of dissimilar parts, implying scattering. Three
mechanisms are involved in the mixing process:
a) The transfer of groups of adjacent particles from one location in the
mass to another
b) Distribution of particles over a freshly developed surface
c) Slipping of particles between others in the mass
WHAT ARE THE MACHINES USED FOR MIXING
PROCESS IN ANIMAL FEED MANUFACTURING?

1. Batch Mixer
2. Batch Mixer with chopper
3. Twin-shaft batch mixer
BATCH MIXER

The Speedmix batch mixer is

capable of processing free-flowing dry
solid substances at a dry mixing time of
90s. Hygienic design and easy
maintenance make it the productive
choice for animal feed and many other
material processing industries.
BATCH MIXER WITH CHOPPER.

The single shaft batch mixer in

stainless steel with optional choppers is
specially designed for the flour milling
and bakery industry. It shortens your
mixing time to just 90 seconds, with
excellent mix quality.
TWIN-SHAFT BATCH MIXER.

The twin-shaft paddle mixer is

applied within various industries. It
processes free-flowing dry solid
substances in short mixing time, featuring
easy maintenance and high capacity on a
small construction height.
