1.Use transverse thrust to assist

2.RHP-stbd turn most effective
3.Come to port side of channel
4.Half ahead and hard to stbd
5.Once vessel makes headway,stop
engine and wheel midships
6.Full astern and once sternway is
made stop engines.
7.Half ahead and wheel hard to stbd
and vessel keeps going to stbd.
 Manoverboard Manouvers
• SINGLE TURN

• WILLIAMSON TURN

• SHARNOW TURN
 Single turn
• Advantages: Good for immediate
action,brings vessel round in quickest time
• Disadvantages:Not effective for delayed
action or person-missing situation as it
does not bring vessel into its own wake.
• Method-1.Rudder hard over to side of
casualty 2.Deviate 25 deg from original
course 3.Rudder amidships and stop
vessel 4.Maintain speed throughout turn.
 Williamson turn
• AdvantagesGood for any situation as after turn
is completed vessel proceeds on reciprocal
course
• Disadvantages:Not quick like the single turn in
immediate action situation
• Method:1.Rudder hard over to side of casualty
2.Deviate 60deg from original course 3.Put
rudder hard over to opposite side 4.When 20
deg from reciprocal course put rudder midhips
and steady up on reciprocal course
 Sharnow turn
• Advantages-In a person missing situation this turn will
bring the vessel round quicker as after the turn vessel
will proceed on a reciprocal course in its own wake.
• Disadvanatages:Not useful in immediate action situation
as vessel will complete its turn astern of the start of turn
position ,therefore leaving an area unsearched.
• Method-1.Rudder hard over to casualty side 2.Deviate
240 deg from original course 3.Rudder hard over to
opposite side 4.When heading 20 deg from reciprocal
course put rudder midships
• 5.Steady up on reciprocal course.
