CAPACITY BASED ON VESIC’S METHOD (1970),


STANDARD PENETRATION TEST (SPT), AND LOADING

PRELIMINARY

1.1. BACKGROUND
As a foundation under the structure can be generally
divided into two types, namely the foundation deep and
shallow foundation. Selection of the type of foundation
depends on the type of structure including the
construction load on whether light or heavy loads and
also depending on the soil type. For the construction of a
light load and soil conditions quite well, usually worn
shallow foundation, but the construction of a heavy load
is usually the type of deep foundation is the right choice.

Planning foundation bored pile covering a series of


activities undertaken by the various stages that include
technical feasibility studies. All was done in order to
ensure the outcome of the construction is strong, safe
and economical.

1.2. FORMULATION PROBLEM

From Background made, the authors formulate some of


the issues to be discussed in this thesis, namely:

• How to determine the axial bearing capacity of foundation


bored pile using laboratory test data, the data standard
penetration test (SPT) and data loading test?
• How would you compare the results of the carrying capacity
of the single bored pile with the method of SPT and Loading
Test?

1.3.WRITING OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this thesis are:


• Calculating foundation carrying capacity of a single
bored pile of test data in labs, standard penetration
test (SPT), and loading test.
• Comparing the results of the carrying capacity of the
single bored pile with SPT method, and Loading Test.

This thesis is expected to benefit:


• As a reference material for anyone to read, especially
for students who are facing problems with the same
topics.
• For others who need it.

1.5.LIMITATION PROBLEMS

In writing this thesis that reviewed the problems are limited to:
• Just in terms of single bored pile pole.
• Only reviewed for bored pile foundation.
• Not reviewing effect horizontal force.
• The method used for the calculation is the Vesic’s
Method(1967) for the investigation data of land in the
laboratory, a method of Reese & Wright (1977) for Data
Standard Penetration Test (SPT), and methods of Chin (1971) as
well as Mazurkiewicz’s Method (1972) for Data Loading Test.

In writing this essay done several ways to gather data


to support that this thesis can be done well. Some ways
include:
• Methods of Observation
To obtain data relating to the bored pile foundation
technical data obtained from the survey results directly to
the location of the project Construction of Elevated Toll
Road Jakarta-Cikapmek, in Tambun, Cikampek.

In writing this essay done several ways to gather data to


support that this thesis can be done well. Some ways include:
• Data retrieval
Retrieval of data required in the planning from PT. ACSET
Indonusa - Waskita KSO as a contractor in the form of SPT data,
drill logs, the data results of the examination, the data loading
tests, and image structure.
• Doing Literature
Reading books related to problems reviewed for this thesis.

Data obtained from the contractor the following data:
Length Bored Pile : 31.5 m and 32.5 m
Diameter Bored Pile : ∅1200 mm
Quality Concrete Bored Pile : fc '= 30 MPa (Cylinder Test)

In the calculation of bored pile foundation design, the authors perform the
following steps:
 bearing capacity of bored pile among others:
• Shear strength parameters by the method Vesic (1967).
• SPT data by the method of Reese & Wright (1977).
• Loading Test results of the data by the method of Chin (1970) and
Mazurkiewich (1972).
 Comparing the results of the calculation of the carrying capacity of bored
pile foundation, among others:
 From the data shear strength parameters.
 From SPT data.
 From the data of Loading Test.
