on Immunization (EPI)

EPI
• Inilunsad noong 1976 upang mabakunahan at
maprotektahan ang lahat ng sanggol laban sa mga
vaccine preventable diseases o VPDs

• Ang serbisyong ito ay available sa lahat ng health


facilities na nagbibigay ng health services sa mga
kababaihan at kanilang mga anak
Layunin ng EPI
• Mabawasan ang pagkakasakit at pagkamatay ng mga
bata at sanggol laban sa mga vaccine preventable
diseases o VPD
• Mabakunahan ang LAHAT ng sanggol laban sa VPDs
> upang mapanatili na polio free ang bansa
> upang ma eliminate ang Measles cases
> upang mapanatili na NT free ang bansa
> upang makontrol ang pagkalat ng sakit na Diptheria,
Pertussis at Hepatitis B
> upang maiwasan ang extra pulmonary tb among
children
Mandate
• Republic Act No. 10152, “Mandatory Infants
and Children Health Immunization Act of 2011”,
signed in July 26, 2010. Specifically, this bill provides
for all infants to be given the birth dose of the
Hepatitis-B vaccine within 24 hours after birth.
IMMUNIZATION ACTIVITIES
1. All immunization services rendered by the
government health workers must be free of charge
as prescribed by law

2. Wednesday is designated as Immunization day in


all government facilities unless otherwise revised
by local traditions, customs or regulations.

3.All government hospital likewise provide


immunization services at the Out Patient
department.

4. Only health workers trained and skilled at giving


injections are authorized by the DOH to give
immunizations

BCG Infants: Intradermal Deltoid region of


.05ml Right arm

Hepa B 0.5 ml Intramuscular Upper outer portion of


the thigh

Pentavalent (3) 0.5 ml Deep Upper outer portion of


intramuscular the thigh

OPV (3) 2 drops Oral Mouth

IPV (1) 0.5 ml Intramuscular Upper outer portion of


the thigh

Measles 0.5 ml Subcutaneously Deltoid region of the


arm
MMR 0.5 ml Subcutaneously Deltoid region of the
arm
Target Age Group
All infants should receive :
 1 dose of BCG, 1 dose Hepa-B vaccine at birth
 3 doses of OPV, 3 doses of Pentavalent vaccine
 1 dose of Measles
before reaching their 1st birthday.
> All women of childbearing age (15-49 yrs old) shall
receive five doses of tetanus diphteria for their life
time protection against tetanus and prevention of
neonatal tetanus
> Other age groups that may be determined for
supplemental immunization activities.
TARGET AGE GROUP
Vaccine Minimum Age/Interval Duration of Protection

TD1 as early as possible during protection for the mother for the first
1st pregnancy delivery

TD2 at least 4 weeks after TT1 infants born to the mother will be
protected from neonatal tetanus
gives 3 years protection for the mother

TD3 At least 6 months later infants born to the mother will be


protected from neonatal tetanus
gives 5 years protection for the mother

TD4 At least 1 year later gives 10 years protection for the mother
TD5 At least 1 year later gives lifetime protection for the mother
all infants born to that mother will be
protected
