GENRES OF THE TEXT

A. Social Function /The purpose of narrative text :


• To amuse or entertain the readers with actual or imaginary experiences in
difference ways.
• Narrative always deal with some problem which lead to the claims and then turn
into a solution to problem.

B. Text Organization or Schematic Structure :


- Orientation ( who were involved in story, when and where )
- Complication ( a problem arises followed by other problems )
- Resolution ( solution to the problem )
C. Language features of narrative text :
- The use of noun phrases (a beautiful princess, a huge temple)
- The use of connectives (first, before that, then, finally)
- The use of adverbial phrases of time and place (in the garden, two days ago)
- The use of simple past tense (He walked away from the village)
- The use of action verbs (walk, sleep, wake up)
- The use of saying verbs (say, tell, ask)
- The use of thinking verbs, feeling verbs, verbs of senses

CINDERELLA
Study the following text and its Schematic Structure! ORIENTATION
Once upon a time there was a girl named Cinderella.
She lived with her bad step-mother and two step
sisters. She had to do all the household chores.

One day, the King invited all the ladies in the


COMPLICATION Kingdom to go to a ball in the palace. He wanted to
find the Crown Prince a wife.

The step-sisters want to the ball that night with their


COMPLICATION mother. Cinderella was left alone. She cried because
she actually wanted to go to the ball, too.

Just then a fairly godmother came. With her magic


wand, she gave Cinderella a coach, two horse, and
COMPLICATION footmen. She also gave Cinderella a lovely dress to
wear on the ball and a pair of glass slippers. She told
Cinderella to come home before midnight.

At the ball Cinderella dance all night with the Prince.


The prince fell in love with her. At midnight,

slippers fell off at the door. She did not have time to
put it back on.

The prince was sad as he could not find Cinderella

The next day, the Prince and his men brought along

search for the owner.

After searching for a long time, finally, they came to


Cinderella’s house. The slipper fit her. The Prince

married and lived happily ever after.
