Assignment 1: Understanding Flood
FW Objectives
1. Inventory of Flood Aspect: duration, height, extent, frequency and trend.
(Spatio-temporal)
2. Identification of possible effects of the flood in the impact area
3. Identification of factors affecting flood in impact area or catchment area
4. Identification of possible cause (natural and anthropogenic) of such
factors
5. Reporting on existing observation station at designated catchment area
(Rainfall and Water Level)
6. Obtain data reflecting catchment response to an areal rainfall event (if
any)
7. Leadership, team working, and communication

will handle Catchment Area
2. See again FW objectives to be achieved. Expand more will be plus.
3. Develop FW plan for achieving its objectives, include but not limited to

4. Delineate Catchment Area
5. Attention to detail : size of area, respondent characteristic, upstream-downstream,
areal rainfall, possible rain time, areal extent, field work duration, distances between
places, traffic jam, resources available, critical time, internet network etc.
6. Present team plan (a pair spokes person) within 10 minutes. Use a power
points or paper if necessary. Make sure your plan delivered. Start at
15.30. (There must be different pairs of spokes person for every
presentation)
7. Seek for input, learnt from other presentation, adapt or revised the plan
if necessary
8. Prepare the equipment needed inc portable simple rain gauge per team.

1. All team member arrive at flood area landmark at 9.00 meet their companion;
ready with the equipment and material. Money will be given at the time.
2. Short brief of team plan to their companion, makes minor adjustment on the fly if
necessary
3. Execute each team FW plan
4. Seek for advice from companion
5. Day 3 will be on Monday, class session start at 9.00
Safety
1. Be aware of sudden flash flood
2. Anticipate any traffic hazard
3. Look up for possible landslide
4. Maintain composure against threatening situation
5. No direct river measurement during flood
6. Safety each member first
