Alice has lived in Wyoming County for her full 83 years of life. She has children and
grandchildren but age and illness have left her with but a few short months to live.
Alice’s family is not able to care for her alone, and they are left with the choice of
admitting Alice to a hospital or transporting her to a Comfort Care Home in another
county.
We ask the question; Shouldn’t Alice be able to stay near her family and be comforted
by them and others in her community that wish for her to experience comfort and the
love of many caring helpers?
We think Alice should be able to stay in Wyoming County with her family, friends and
community. Alice should be able to come to a Comfort Care Home and that home can
be Charlotte House if you will help.

Comfort Care Homes
A non-profit, community-based comfort care home, committed to providing comprehensive
and compassionate care to the terminally ill, and their families, in a home like atmosphere.
It is our desire to allow our residents to live in a warm, loving home-like atmosphere of
support and encouragement during their final months of life.
We believe in the Hospice philosophy of care: all persons have the right to die with dignity,
to have an enhanced quality of life for the remainder of their days, and to be as comfortable
and pain free as possible.
Comfort Care will be a comprehensive and compassionate 2-bed home for the dying to be in
North Java in Wyoming County. It will be a true home-like atmosphere, not a health care
facility or a hospital.

What is a Comfort Home?
Comfort Care Homes all work on the same model – 24/7 hospice care for two people
at a time with the help of trained volunteers and nurses; providing care at no cost to
patient or family. A Hospice or Certified nursing agency supports the care with
nursing, social work, chaplain, and aide visits. Each Home acts independently,
choosing from the list of referred patients based on their own assessment of who has
the greatest need of their help. When a home is interested in offering a bed to a
prospective resident, the nurse of the house will come out to interview the person,
bringing pictures of the house to help the person understand what the house is like.

Frequently Asked Questions (1)
What are Palliative Care, Hospice and Comfort Care?
Palliative care can be appropriate at any stage of an illness. It is a holistic
approach to health care that goes beyond the physical wellbeing of the resident,
attending to their spiritual, emotional and psychological needs. Hospice care is a
specialized form of palliative care designed to support those in the final stages of
a terminal illness. Comfort Care is available during the last 90 days of someone's
life with the resident and family agreeing there will be no heroic measures taken
to prolong life.
