The two main characteristics of market design is:

Operational efficiency is that how the allocation of spaces


work and how the flow goes on.

Utilization efficiency is that how the users are going to utilize


the space wisely
AIM &OBJECTIVE:

1. To redevelop the existing INA Market and its precinct


2. To create a permeable urban space that is versatile and to
design structures that can adjust to the changes in the needs
of the user as well as in environmental changes with the help
of suitable technologies.
3. A space to incubate small food businesses and cultivate both
culinary and cultural happenings
4. To provide an ef ficient and comfortable environment setting for
workers as well as for visitors.
 Inspiration to the project:
1. When people experience a city it’s the food and
architecture of that place that most often have the largest
cultural impact.
2. This thesi s thereby aims to tackle the social issue through an
architectural intervention.
WHY INA MARKET?

1. I NA Market was designed to serv e needs of the neighbouri ng


residential colonies.
2. I t was essential l y a vegetable, flower and food market.
3. Howev er with the changing urban l andscape as wel l as cul tural ,
social l andscape it has conti nued to ev ol v e. Despite, this it has
continued to retain the image of “Food Bazaar” at the city level.
4. I NA Market has been chosen in Del hi as the site for this project
because of two reasons,
 Firstl y , it is visually and physically well connected to the city
making it easy to facil itate a change in the peopl e and
 Second reason was because of its pre-existing “food market” it
shares with the city.
 Redevelopment of Site:
1. There are two ways to go about it, one to compl etel y nul l ify and
ignore the current built space.
2. The other method is to take essence of the original buil ding in
terms of its v ol ume, functi onal i ty , etc.

CURRENT ISSUES AND REQUIREMENTS :

1. No proper arrangement of shops


2. Lack of parking spaces causing congestion towards the outer road
edge.
3. Serv ices are not managed properl y causing it to be a fire hazard in
case of fire.
4. I n the Poul try and sea food rows of shops al l the waste water from
these shops fl ows on the main street.
5. No env ironmental qual ity
 To analyze buying and selling behavior
 To foster strong pedestrian connections
 To incorporate spaces
 Volume and massing
 Visual connectivity to public realm

edge of the site.
