Introduction

GCCM’s consist of a flexible 3-

dimensional fiber matrix filled with a
high-early strength dry concrete mix with
a polymeric membrane laminated onto
one side. In this way they combine
geotextile, geomembrane and concrete
technology

(GCCM's) were originally developed in

2005
Components
• The polyester top layer
- prevent the seepage of cement
powder.

- allows the surface to “green-up”

• Nodes
• Diagonal Members
• The 3-dimensional fiber • Ring Beams
• Tie Beams
matrix
• Core
• Floor Slab
-controls the material thickness

-prevents slump on hydration

Components
• The high early strength
concrete mix.
-forms a hard-wearing,
chemically resistant, and durable
• Nodes
core. • Diagonal Members
• Ring Beams
• Tie Beams
• Core
• The polymeric bottom • Floor Slab
layer
-acts as a waterproof layer

-increases the tensile capacity

Benefits
Reduces Installation Time Environment Impact
• No shuttering, • Depending on the thickness utilized GCCMs typically
offer a carbon saving of between 1.5 –3.75 times
• No steelwork compared with the conventional concrete.

• No floating

• No post-cure clean-up

Easy installation
•can be supplied in man-portable ‘batched’ rolls.

•allows concrete infrastructure to be installed in

locations previously inaccessible for
conventional concrete
Properties
1. Density: can be determined for both flexible and hardened state
GCCM Type Mass per
(nominal Unit Area
thickness) EN 1849

GCCM 7.5
(5mm) – unset

GCCM 11.85
(8mm) – unset

GCCM 18.99
(13mm) –

2. Flexural Strength

■ Strength testing of GCCMs

provides the best overall indication of the
material performance in its hardened (cured) state.
■ For the purposes of quality control, quality
assurance and as a performance indicator (for
durability testing for example)
3. Abrasion

Durability of concrete can be assessed effectively by GCCM Type Abrasion

measuring its abrasion resistance (nominal thickness) Resistance
ASTM C1353-15
Since the major contributor to abrasion resistance in GCCMs is (mm per 1000
the concrete component, there are no relevant test methods cycles)
from within the existing library of geosynthetic standards.
GCCM (5mm) 0.15
GCCM abrasion resistance is therefore best characterized using
normal concrete abrasion test. GCCM (8mm) 0.15

GCCM (13mm) 0.15

4. Durability
Soak-dry: 50 Pass
6hrs at 60(+/-5)OC cycles
drying The long-term durability of GCCMs is an
& 18hrs immersion in essential characteristic in order to understand
water how they behave over an extended period of
time when exposed to a range of environmental
Freeze-thaw: 100 Pass conditions
1-2hrs at -20(+/-4)OC cycles
freezing & 1-2hrs both the concrete component and the polymeric component
immersion in water of the material must be taken into consideration in the test
20(+/- which covers environmental cyclic testing including soak-dry,
)OC freeze-thaw and heat-rain.

Heat-rain 50 Pass
2hrs 50mins (+/-5mins) cycles
water spray & 2hrs
50mins (+/-5mins)
radiant heat
Applications

■ Ditch lining
■ Erosion control and slope protection
■ Berm protection
■ Culvert lining
Conclusion

GCCMs are a new and exciting Standards have been

development within the world utilized and adapted GCCMS is a thin,
of geosynthetics flexible, durable, water
with a broad range of from existing concrete & fire proof concrete
applications standards layer

Unlike regular concrete, Abrasion and durability

Concrete Cloth are the most important
It is very easy to place &
materials can be tests for GCCMs as it
handle
installed in the rain and was invented to resist
other wet conditions the erosion.
