OBJECTIVES OF RESEARCH

 To synthesize graphene material from cane sugar

 To check efficacy of graphene composite in removal of

contamination from water
RESEARCH QUESTION:

 To find out suitable method to immobilize graphene on

sand without any binder.
 To investigate the adsorption capacity of synthesized
material.
MOTIVATION
MOTIVATION
 According to united nation’s 17 goals program till 2030. Their
Sixth goal reflects( clean water and sanitation) due to bad
economics or poor infrastructure, millions of people including
children die every year from diseases associated with
inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene. This
motivated us to produce a cost-effective method for water
purification.
(Daud et al. 2017)

 water pollution is responsible for approximately 80% of all

diseases and 30% of deaths.
MATERIALS

GRAPHENE:
 Extracted from sugar cane.
 It is one atom thick layer of carbon atoms, it’s the
thinnest and lightest material known to man.
Graphene Sand Composite

 Graphenic material from cane sugar is immobilized on

sand without any need of binder referred as graphene
sand composite.
GRAPHENE SAND COMPOSITE AS A
WATER FILTER
 Graphene sand composite is an adsorbent it is porous
material which can only pass water molecules leaving
behind the contaminants impurities and dust particle.
METHODS

 Preparation of graphene sand composite.

 Raman spectroscopy
 XPS (X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy).
PREPARATION OF GRAPHENE SAND
COMPOSITE

 Sugar dissolved in water

 Solution will be mixed with calculated amount of sand
 Mixture will be dried at 95 degree C.
 At first from room temp upto 100 degree C.
 Then from 100-200
 Then ramped to 750
 Held for 3 hour at 750
 Material will be cooled down at room temperature
 Black sampled material was named as graphene sand composite
DIAGRAM
EXPECTED RESULTS

A strongly adhering char will be deposited on the sand

surface which will successfully use in water purifications
