WHAT IS BULLYING?

Bullying comes from the word


bully, which in the Oxford
dictionary is defined as someone
who is accustomed trying to hurt or
intimidate those they consider
vulnerable.

TYPES OF BULLYING

 Verbal Bullying:
o Name-calling.
o Insulting.
o Mock.
o Homophobic or racist sayings.
o Verbal abuse.

 Social bullying:
o Spread false rumors or rumors.
o Throwing bad jokes that do.
o Inviting others to exclude someone.
o Giving expression or gestures that threaten
or insult.
 Physical bullying:
o Hit.
o Kick.
o Push.
o Tripping.
o Damaging property.

 Cyber bullying
o Accompany painful e-mails or writen
messages, images, and videos.
o Exclude someone online.
o Spread rumors and bad rumors in
cyberspace impersonating another
person or using someone else’s
account without permission.

Victim
 Social isolations.
 Low self-esteem.
 Poor school performance.
 Anxiety disorders.
 Chronic depression.
 Self-destructive behaviour.

Effects of Bullying for the Bully

 Difficulty maintaining social relationships.


 Increased risk of substance abuse.
 Risk of spousal or child abuse.
 Risk of antisocial behavior.
 Less likely to be educated or employed.

FREQUENCY OF BULLYING

• The 2017 School Crime Supplement (National Center for


Education Statistic) indicates that, nationwide, about 20% of
students ages 12-18 experienced bullying.
• The 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (Center
for Disease Control and Prevention) indicates that,
nationwide, 19% of students in grades 9-12 report being
bullied on school property in the 12 months preceding the
survey.

Where and When


Bullying Happens?

Bullying can occur during or afterschool


hours. While most reported bullying
happens in the school building, a
significant percentage also happens in
place like in the playground or the bus.
It can also happen in the youth’s
neighborhood or on the internet.
