Science
Grade: 5
• Environmental science is the
study of the environment, it’s
problems, and solutions to those
environmental problems. It is
important to study because it helps
us understand the impact humans
have on earth. We can have positive
impacts by recycling. Or, we can
have negative impacts by burning
fossil fuels, polluting, and using
nonrenewable resources. These are
just some examples. Today, we will
be looking at the Earth’s water cycle
process, negative impacts of water
What is Environmental pollution, and simple solutions to
those problems.

Science: The Water Cycle
• The water cycle is Earth’s natural
process of recycling water. The water
cycle is 3.8 billion years old!!!
Water Cycle Steps

• 1- Evaporation: water turns into water vapor

from heat energy
• 2- Condensation: the water rises up through
the atmosphere
• 3- Precipitation: clouds release water vapor
in the form of rain
• 4- Collection: rain is absorbed by soil
• 5- Repeat

Earths Water water.
 The Earth’s water cycle is 3.8 BILLION years
old!
Problems With Earth’s Water
Water Pollution
• Pollution results when
contaminates are introduced
into the natural environment.
This is usually a result from
human activities. An example
to the right is plastic being
littered into this body of water,
contaminating it completely.

The Problems With
Water Pollution
• Water pollution hosts
infectious diseases making the
water unsafe to drink. Some
diseases include Typhoid,
Cholera, and Malaria.
• It kills aquatic life. When
marine creatures get caught on
plastic, they suffer
tremendously.
• It ruins ecosystems.
Solutions to Water
Pollution
• Do NOT litter. Recycle your plastic
instead so it does not end up in the
ocean.
• Do NOT dispose of chemicals in
drains.
• Increase awareness in your
community.
