LANDSLIDE SUSCEPTIBILITY STUDY OF

HIGHLAND PART OF THE MANIMALA RIVER

BASIN, KERALA
Introduction
 Landslides are natural phenomenon in which the earth materials are moving
down slope under the influence of gravity.

Objectives of the study

 Evaluation of various geo-environmental factors responsible for landslide of
the study area such as Slope, Elevation, Slope Aspect, Drainage,
Lineaments, Land Use Land Cover (LULC), Normalised Difference
Vegetation Index (NDVI), Soil Thickness, Rainfall and preparing thematic
maps of 1:200000 scale
 Creating stability zonation map of the study area using Rank and Weightage
Method using Geographic Information System
Study Area
 Study area located between 9˚25’36.085” - 9˚39’51.576” North latitude and

76˚44’47.158” - 76˚58’55.614” East longitude

 Kanjirappally, Azhutha, Ranni, Vazhoor -Block Panchayath.

 Total area:-438 sq km area

 Maximum elevation is 1337 and slope ranging between 13˚ and 64˚

 Lithology includes Charnockite, Dolerite and Quartzite
