Definations of Leadership and Followership

• Leader: Leaders direct and guide followers in the


organization, recognizing both roles as critical to the
success of the organization.
Leadership: The art of guiding others to create a
result that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.
Formal leadership: The officially sanctioned
leadership based on the authority of a formal
position.
Informal leadership:The unofficial leadership
accord to a person by other members of the
organization .
• Follower:A person who follows another in regard to
his or her ideas or belief ,disciple or adherent
Followership: The process of being guided and
directed by a leader in the work environment

• Autocratic style
The authoritarian leader makes decision alone as
power is centralized in one person
Decisions are enforced using rewards and fear of
punishment
• Democratic style
The participative leader include one or more
employees in the decision making process
Communication flow freely
• Laissez –faire style
The leaders fails to accept the responsibilities of the
position .
Creates chaos in work environment

There are many other powerful things that you need to do to


become a leader ,and these are all things that existing leaders had
befores they started followings other .So here are the key
differences between leaders and followers.
 Leaders take the initiative , followers don’t
 Leaders don’t rely on others ,followers do
 Leaders come up with original ideas ,followers then use
them
 Followers want to be where the leaders are, but not
become them
 Followers follow because they are afraid to lead
 Followers haven’t put in the effort that leaders have

They both are distinct forces that dictate how to act with in
organization
Each organization has it’s on distinctive culture.It is a
combination of the founders , current leadership, crises
,events ,history and size
The climate is the feel of the organization , the individual
and shared perceptions and attitudes of the organization,s
members
These activities influence both individual and team
motivation and satisfaction,such as :
• How well does the leader clarify the priorities and goals of the
organization ?
• What is the system of recognition , rewards ,and punishments in the
organizations ?
• How competent are the leaders ?
• What will happen if i make a mistake?
