Introduction

Sour Gas
 37% H2S
 10 % CO2
Objective
• ADCO drilled 3 appraisal wells to gather
information
• Making Decision to appoint Crew, tackle HSE,
Equipment Installation
 AP-1 and AP-3 were drilled in crest to evaluate:
 Fluid composition
 Reservoir Quality
 Productivity
 Volume in Place

 AP-2 was drilled beyond structural fault to

evaluate:
 Reservoir Continuity
PVT sampling Program
 Open Hole Sampling (MDT)
 Cased Hole Sampling (BHS and SS)
RESERVOIR QUALITY
RESERVOIR PRODUCTIVITY
 Logging  Production Test
 Coring  Well Performance
 Reservoir Simulation
 Coring • RCA
 Logging • SCAL
 Pressure • Well Modeling
Management • Reservoir
 Seismic Simulation
Reprocessing
 Required No. of Wells
 Larger and Better Sweet Spot
 More GIIP Produced in lesser no. of Wells
 Sustainable Well Deliverability
 Existing data is not sufficient (Short Term)

 Oil Gas and Water Contact

 Water Production
 Sweet Perched Water
 Saline Edge Water
 Saline Bottom Water

 Gas Depletion Data Acquisition Requirements
 Well Integrity
 Pre Installation of equipment
 Installation of sub surface devices

 Seismic
 No. of Wells and well target
 Horizon and Faults
 Reservoir Modeling
 Open Hole Logging
 Gamma ray/Density/Neutron/Later logs along with sonic log (Pressure
Gradient)
 NMR (Permeability Distribution)
 Pressure Data (Zone Permeability)
 These all are helpful in specially slanted wells

 Coring
 Determination of facies,
 Porosity,
 Permeability,
 Initial Fluid Composition
 FIT (Formation Integrity Test)
 Down hole Sampling to determine Fluid Property (Test to ensure
well is properly cleaned up, stable flow period)
 HC accounting and Reservoir Management (Water Saturation and
Gas Condensate)
 Reservoir Pressure
 Updating reservoir Pressure
 Identification of Depletion Areas (Loss of containments)
 Build-up Survey plan
 Skin Remediation
 Well testing
 Monitoring Gas
 Condensate
 Water

 Historic Well Testing Exploration/Appraisal Well

 Suitable for presence and mobility of HCs
 Appraisal Well Test for PVT analysis and Compositional data
 Initial and Maximum Production rate (Horizontal vs. Vertical)
 Drilling/Completion Fluid Ingress
 Long term (90 days) production test in the horizontal side-track, to
establish production behavior
 First HPHT vertical appraisal well was drilled in 2014,
reservoir data was collected but well was abandoned
due to presence of elemental sulfur
 In 2105 horizontal appraisal well was drilled and
sulphamax chemicals were allowed to flow through
annulus for 18 days at three different choke sizes
 Completion design was retrieved and metal joints were
inspected to check the metal loss due to flow of toxic
gas but condition was quite satisfactory..
 But Several Drilling, HSE and Testing Challenges were
faced
 Toxic gas spill (Zero)
 45 personnel from 6 contractors were involved
round the clock
 EPZ was developed
 Frequent fire and rescue drill were conducted
 SSSP for clear communication
 Availability of tools prior to drilling
 Availability of all logging tools
 Plan to deal with reservoir uncertainty
 Utilized largest nipple size tubing to maximize gun
perforation
 Enhanced draw-work pulling capacity
 Specialized sulfur dissolving solvent “Sulphamax” was
used for testing
 Normal carbon steel pipe was used
 It was decided to use each pipe for a maximum
of 3 months
 Tie-in facility was designed to dilute 37%
Hydrogen Sulfide
 Table was designed to regulate production rate
to maintain dilution
