Retail Management
The actual term ‘retailing’ is thought to be derived from the old
French word ‘retailer’ which means ‘a piece of’ or ‘to cut a
piece’. This implies the breaking-of-bulk function of the retailer
that is, the acquiring of large amounts of the products they sell
and dividing them up into smaller amounts to be sold to
individual consumers. Any business that sells a product or
service to a final consumer, whether it is to a customer in a shop,
by mall, over the telephone, door to door or by means of a
vending machine, is a retailing business.

“Retailing includes all the activities involved in selling goods or


services to the final consumers for personal, non-business use. A
retailer or retail store is any business enterprise whose sale
volume comes primarily from retailing.” – Philip Kotler
Organized and Unorganized Retailing
Organized retailing refers to trading activities
undertaken by licensed retailers, that is, those who are
registered for sales tax, income tax, etc. These include
the corporate-backed hypermarkets and retail chains,
and also the privately owned large retail businesses.

Unorganized retailing, on the other hand, refers to the


traditional formats of low-cost retailing, for example,
the local kirana shops, owner manned general stores,
paan/beedi shops, convenience stores, hand cart and
pavement vendors, etc.
Bharat Beauty Centre
Established in the year 2002, Bharat Beauty Centre in Raviwar
Peth, Pune is a top player in the category Beauty Parlor
Equipment in the Pune. This well-known establishment acts as a
one-stop destination servicing customers both local and from
other parts of Pune. Over the course of its journey, this business
has established a firm foothold in it’s industry. The belief that
customer satisfaction is as important as their products and
services, have helped this establishment garner a vast base of
customers, which continues to grow by the day. It has a wide
range of products and services to cater to the varied
requirements of their customers. The staff at this establishment
are courteous and prompt at providing any assistance. They
readily answer any queries or questions that you may have. This
establishment is functional from 10:00 - 21:00.
USP and more information about the
shop
Raviwar Peth is the heart of the city. There are various shops,
selling different products. Being in the heart of the city it has a
great advantage. It is one of the well established cosmetics store
in the area. It has a wide range of products and companies. It is a
2 floors building. On the ground floor there are all the lotions,
waxes, shaving items, oils, gels and etc. And on the 1st floor there
are all the perfumes, brushes, sanitary pads, nail enamels, clips
and other products. It is an effortless task in commuting to this
establishment as there are various modes of transport readily
available.
Inference
Being a well established store, they do not use any Retail
Communication Mix i.e. advertising, sales promotion, publicity.
However they do have racks and mannequins as a tool used
under store atmosphere. There’s almost about 20-25% increase
in their sales every year. They believe that a good salesperson
can always increase the sales and build a reliable relationship
with the customer. There are about 10-15 employees. There are
also few employees from particular company like one lady is
from VLCC, which is one of the leading companies in the
cosmetics business. This business employs individuals that are
dedicated towards their respective roles and put in a lot of effort
to achieve the common vision and larger goals of the company.
