• What is a Noun?
• A noun is a word used to name a person,
animal, place, thing, and abstract idea. Nouns
are usually the first words which small
children learn. The highlighted words in the
following sentences are all nouns:

• Nouns are words that are: person, place or
things. Read the sentences below and circle all
the nouns in each sentence. Then list each
noun that you circled under the correct
category in the boxes below. For example, if
you circle the noun “flower” and “girl”in rhe
first sentence, you would write”flower” under
the heading THINGS and “girl” under the
heading PEOPLE as shown below.
