He was born in Libog (now Santo
Domingo) , Albay. He started writing music for the local church by himself or in collaboration with his older brother Bernardo who organized the local band Banda de Lib-og. A contemporary Bicolano writer, musician, graphic
artist, teacher and cultural worker. Awardee of several Premio Tomas Arejola for Bicol Literature both for his poetry and fiction: his collections “Karangahan” and “Ini, an mga buhay ta” won first prize for poetry in 2006 and 2007. In 2008, his short story “Daramlagon” won 2nd prize in the Gawad Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino literary contest. He was awarded by the Provincial Government of Albay as the 2015 Outstanding Albayano Artist for Literature. ABDON JUN BALDE JR. A successful engineer by training, to follow his father decision on what he should pursue in college.
His first short story, Milagro sa Aming
Nayon was published in Liwayway magazine way back in 1961, when he was only 16 years old. Then a year after, it was followed by Kuwento ng Isang Pag-ibig As a prolific writer, he authored a sucession of books on Philippine literature, three of his works, Mayong, Hunyango sa Bato, and Calvary Road won for him the National Book Awards. MAYONG - merges deathless legend and fantastic lore with the romance of present-day realities, in the process weaving a well-told tale of the crossover between the natural and the supernatural. HUNYANGO SA BATO - published in 2003. It tells of the corruption in the construction industry and irregularities in public works projects. CAVALRY ROAD – published in 2005. A collection of stories in the surreal and absurd genre took the National Book Awards and the 2005 J. C. Laya Prize for Best Book Fiction. In 2007, he was given the Premio Arejola Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature In 2008, the Omaw sa Oragon Award was given him during a tribute in his honour by the Aquinas University in Legazpi City.
In 2009, he received the Bikolinismo
Regional Artist Award plaque.
Early in 2010, his 8thbook
titled Sibago was launched at the Tomas Aquinas Research Complex Auditorium, Manila.
