WHAT IS MEDIA?
• Communication channels through which news, entertainment,
education, data, or promotional messages are disseminated.
Media includes every broadcasting and narrowcasting medium
such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct
mail, telephone, fax, and internet.
WHY MEDIA IS SO IMPORTANT?
• All media have their importance and usefulness. The media serve to
keep us informed of current issues.
• And the development of a better society through an informed public
opinion.
THE EVOLUTION OF MEDIA
THROUGH AGES
Pre-
historical Electronic
Period Period

Industrial Information
Period Period
PRE-HISTORICAL PERIOD
• refers to the time before the existence of written or recorded history. It
occurred some 4.5 million years ago. The era is divided into two period:
Stone age and metal age.

• They are called as such because of the tools that the prehistoric people
used.

• At this era, they used to start fires, hunt and bury their dead.
IMPORTANCE
• The importance of this period is to help those inaccessible information
about our past before the advent of writing. Prehistory as events that
occurred before the existence of written records in a given culture or
society.
OLD FABRIC

It began in India. They use fabrics

or paper and traditional writing
materials to keep information and
to send messages to other people.
CAVE PAINTINGS
• these are painted drawing on the wall of a cave walls or ceiling, often depicting
animals. It started 40,000 years ago. And the exact purpose of the Paleolithic
paintings or cave paintings is not known.
BAMBOO INSCRIPTION

It originated in China. And they use it as the

main media for documents during prehistoric
era.
HORNS
• capture attention or to call everybody's attention if there are important messages that
everyone needs to hear.
FIRES
• they used fire as their "electricity" during prehistoric age. And they use smoke, to
also call for everyone's attention
HIEROGLYPHICS
• this is just like the cave paintings, but it originated in Egypt. And it is carved in the
rocks or clay tablets.
INDUSTRIAL PERIOD
• a period of history that encompasses the changes in economic and social
organization that began around 1760 in Great Britain and later in other countries,
characterized chiefly by the replacement of hand tools with power-driven machines
such as the power loom and the steam engine, and by the concentration of industry
in large establishments.

• Technology shifted from using hand tools to operating power-driven machines. Most
people associate factories and machine to industries. Invented machines for mass
production.
IMPORTANCE
• The industrial revolution was when we (humanity) first manufactured
energy. More industry more everything with fewer people and animals.

• These are just a few of the reasons the Industrial Revolution was so
important.

• Lastly, the Industrial Revolution created wealth for many western

countries and many mechanical inventions were created.
TELEGRAPH
• Invented by Samuel Morse. The telegraph revolutionized long-distance
communication. It worked by transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between
stations. In addition to helping invent the telegraph, Samuel Morse developed a code
that assigned a set of dots and dashes to each letter of the English alphabet and
allowed for the simple transmission of complex messages across telegraph lines.
NEWSPAPER
• Newspapers most commonly appear in daily editions ,but may also be issued twice a
day or weekly. The content of newspaper generally consist of a predetermined
combination of news, opinions and advertising.
TYPEWRITER
• Although other important inventors had tried to make a typewriter, they weren't
commercially successful. But typewriter was certainly the first commercially
successful one, invented in 1867.
PHONOGRAPHS
• This is invented by Thomas Edison. He invented this so that some people will be
able to hear their favorite band's songs.
ELECTRONIC PERIOD
• The electronic age began when electronic equipment and large technologies,
including computers came into use. In addition, in this era the transistor ushered
were invented.

• People harnessed the power of transistors that led to the transistor radio, electronic
circuits, and the early computers. In this age, long distance communication became
more efficient.
IMPORTANCE
• The highlight of this period is focused on the advent of solid state devices. The four
main events found in this period are the late vacuum tubes period, the transistors
period, the integrated circuits period and the computer processors period.

• Also, further development of the vacuum tube was spurred by the demands of two
other technological systems: a new form of wireless communication, and the ever-
expanding long-distance telephone networks.
TELEPHONES

• It is a device that coverts sound and electrical waves into audible relays, and is used
for communication. The telephone consists of two essential parts; a microphone and
a speaker. This allows the user to speak into the device and also hear transmissions
from the other user.
TRANSISTOR RADIO
A transistor radio is a small portable radio receiver that
uses transistor-based circuitry. It became the most popular
electronic communication device in history, with
billions[1] manufactured during the 1960s and 1970s.
WALK-TALKIE
• This kind of radio are portable, two-way radio transceivers. The most well-known
invention
TELEVISIONS
• The First Electronic Television was invented in 1927. Televisions receive
broadcasting signals and turn them into pictures and sound.
INFORMATION PERIOD
• The Internet paved the way for faster communication and the creation of the social
network. People advanced the use of microelectronics with the invention of personal
computers, mobile devices, and wearable technology. Moreover, voice, image, sound
and data are digital. We are now living in the information age.

• People advanced the use of microelectronics with the invention of personal

computers, mobile devices, and wearable technology.
IMPORTANCE
• With the introduction of computers, the business world was changed forever. Using
computers and software, businesses use information technology to ensure that their
departments run smoothly. They use information technology in a number of different
departments including human resources, finance, manufacturing, and security.

• With the help of this era which the modern generation it is an access to relevant
information today and age is the only way people, societies and nations can advance
in terms of social and economic development. It is important in trade and commerce
for people to have information as fast as is humanely possible.

• Just a few clicks on a website allows the consumer to submit an order, and
information technology sends that order to the company.
SMARTPHONES
• People didn't start using the term "smartphone" until 1995, but the first true
smartphone actually made its debut three years earlier in 1992. It was called the
Simon Personal Communicator, and it was created by IBM more than 15 years
before Apple released the iPhone. a mobile phone that performs many of the
functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, Internet access,
and an operating system capable of running downloaded applications.
FACEBOOK
• is a social networking website where users can post comments, share photographs
and post links to news or other interesting content on the web, chat live, and watch
short-form video. Facebook began in February of 2004 as a school-based social
network at Harvard University.
GOOGLE
• Google Search, also referred to as Google Web Search or simply Google, is a web
search engine developed by Google. It is the most used search engine on the World
Wide Web across all platforms. Also, The main purpose of Google Search is to hunt
for text in publicly accessible documents offered by web servers, as opposed to other
data, such as images or data contained in databases.
IMPORTANCE OF MEDIA IN MARKETING
• media plays a very crucial role these days for businesses.
• We can use media to provide an identity to who we are and the products or
services that we offer.
• We can create relationships using media with people who might not
otherwise know about our products or service or what our companies
represent.
• media makes us "real" to consumers. If you want people to follow you,
don't just talk about the latest product news, but share your personality
with them.
• We can use media to associate ourselves with our peers, that may be
serving the same target market.
• We can use media to communicate and provide the interaction that
consumers look for.
